i see that

its FOOTBALL not soccer
(well where i come from at least :p)

Yeh I am over that argument to be honest, Its confusing anyway and I dont mind calling them both by different names (its just a name). If its bigfooty ill call it soccer, if its the gate forum Ill call it football. If I am talking to my aussie rule mates or my football mates. You get the picture. :)

Though I am set that Malcolm Blight is the most annoying special comments man on TV.

Second most annoying Macca. :)

Dermott takes the cake with the way he thinks he can predict what is going to happen all the time, or when he reverts every conversation to what he used to do.

He really talks a heap of crap.

Not far behind him is Blighty though. He annoys the shyte out of me with his little in jokes, in knowledge etc etc, weird opinions and no respect for anybody else's opinion.

Both are absolute bigheads.

I used to get annoyed by Blightys comments but now i just find him hilariously senile. I think it just says something about how bad chanel 10 are that i actually do look forward to his comments now in their otherwise boring (*cough*RobertWalls*cough*) and ignorant (*cough*quatermain*cough*) coverage.

It's scary when you look at the age of the West Coast list. I reckon they have at least 1, maybe 2 more grand final wins in them.

I think with that centre line maybe another 3 at least mate. :)

Remember the way ferret features went on about Port in early 2005?

Hmmm....different, different class, different coach, extremely different mentality and culture at the club.

James, pickett and carr drove them to where they got and then there output ended in minutes not seasons,my point is that something happens to three of the eagles 5 gun midfielders like what happened to Port they will drop output.

What happened to Port midfield was Josh Carr bolting for Freo and other retiring. Most of Port's midfield was at that age where they were going to retire in the next season or 2.

Look at West Coast. Cousins is the olders from the fab 4 and he is still only 27. Judd is only 23, Cox and Kerr are there abouts. Their KPP are still young and they have some fantastic young kids coming through in Seaby, Waters, Butler, Selwood etc...

From that team that won the flag yesterday I can only see Banfield and maybe Chick retiring from this team and those 2 can alredy be covered.

They are perfect example of a team thats young, experienced and already has a flag under their belt.

They have at least another 1 or 2 flags in them because their best players are yet to hit their best years and their KPP are still young and still developing.

Definately looks that way. If they can keep them all together. Hopefully they have better contract negotiators than Essendon had at the start of the decade.

West Coast are one of the best run clubs off the field so I am pretty confident in saying that they will manage their affairs a lot better than Essendon did. Essendon paid HUGE money to 2 of their starts and there was not much left for the rest. I think WC are better at managing those sort of things.

You can never tell though if someone is going to run home, however West coast dont lose players normally once they get there hands on them.

James succumb to an injury and who knows Judd may succumb to his shoulders.

Pickett well he just lost the plot a bit like Gardiner.

These three loses to me were huge for Port,Francou and Primus they handled but not these three who had a fair bit in them.

I think West Coast rely heavily on there guns, ffing guns like no other club IMO and well if they go down.

They've done extremely well to cover the gaping holes left in their list both during and immediately after their Premiership window closed.

  • Lost Stevens for nothing - You can argue that this is their fault blah blah blah but really, Heath Scotland and Mark McGough or Collingwood's second round pick and one of those two mentioned was hardly adequate compensation in order to make a rival Premiership threat even stronger.
  • Lost Francou and Primus to injury - the best ruckman in the comp and Francou finished second in the Brownlow prior to doing his knee in early 2003. Both suffered numerous setbacks and re-injured the offending joint.
  • Lost Hardwick to retirement - Past All-Australian and had mastered the art of pinch-hitting from the bench with midfield bursts. Won stacks of timely freekicks with his niggling style.
  • Lost James to injury/retirement - His 2004 finals series was as influential as anyone's in the past decade. Won so much in and under hardball in the stoppages but within 12 months his knee had degenerated to the point where the club doctor and a second opinion advised retirement so he could continue to walk in later life.
  • Lost Carr to homesickness - Like Kane Johnson, he'd done his shift, tasted Premiership glory and wanted to return home - with the added incentive of having a kick with his brother. Freo were unwilling to part with Pavlich or Schammer (and rightly so) so the compensation of their first, second and third rounder wouldn't reap rewards for another few years at least.
  • Lost Schofield to contract wrangles - Schofield was incredibly underrated within Port's structure. Could run all day as a solid coast-to-coast midfielder and provided a lot of drive for the running possession-style Port employed. Quickly faded anyway and only managed a gaggle of games for Freo in two years before pulling the pin.
  • Lost Pickett to himself/the league - Byron actually had a very ordinary 2004 overall, but his Norm Smith performance proved what he was capable of when he was in the right frame of mind. Of course, immediately after that he was done for DUI, then stupidly crunched Begley and received a ridiculous amount of matches despite a clean prior record (subsequent identical and similar incidents have received nowhere near the same scrutiny) and that was that.

That's what, 8 key players who were either unavailable or had their playing abilities severely diminished before, during and immediately after the Premiership period.

Brisbane are another example. Went from the greatest team of all time to owned by all and sundry within 5 minutes due to a few retirements and because Jonathan Brown simply can't get out on the park.

No club - including West Coast - would be able to cope with the absence and subsequent exodus of such crucial players for relatively little return.

So you're right rayven, it can all turn pretty quickly.
