They've got a long history of sacking coaches but for once they have made the right decision.

His comments after the Melbourne final loss about having the most 6 day breaks of any team in the competition and about no one being able to win without their best players on the park underline the fact that they have made the right call.

When you compare it to coaches like Roos and Craig who treat obstacles as a challenges to be relished, he comes up well short. Craig always talks about us having to be good enough and strong enough as a club to be able to cope with injuries, road trips, short breaks, media pressure, public expectations, premiership favouritism etc.

Good post!
Im surprised "no one" saw it coming . They must be blind...Micky Milkshake 'll be next.

For me it was his antics after the 'drawn' game in Tassie that were a disgrace. He knew full well that the siren had sounded and his subsequent statements were unsportsmanlike and dishonest.

Mind you, I had to feel for the bloke being trotted out for the press conference to sit next to Butterss, who had just sacked him. Why would you? Surely it wasn't necessary for him to attend for the anouncement?

Then Butterss just spoke his usual corporate cr@p speak which said nothing. But then he said that they would need to be careful going after coaches in contract, which is saying way too much. Sure it happens, but why would you say that?

I can't see any contracted AFL coach going to them unless it is someone just about to be pushed out the door. If they move on by mutual consent then it saves a club a contract payout.

St Kilda are a rabble.

I will be the first to say that I have NEVER ever been a fan of Grant Thomas. How he shafted Malcolm Blight has never sat well with me but after listenting to his interview on 5AA today, I have new found respect for Grant as a person.

He is hurting but not once has he taken a shot at St. Kilda. His interview was all about what he want St. Kilda needs to do and when KG blew his gasket about the way St. Kilda treated him, he still put the St. Kilda in front of himself saying he is a St. Kilda person and always will be.

Well done Grant, you handled yourself with some REAL class today and for that you ought to be congratulated :thumbsu:

I'm with you Stiff. I heard the interview and came away thinking Thomas is a quality bloke, and that St Kilda's corporate head honchos are the complete opposite. Particularly this guy:

I didn't hear the interview today but I'm not buying it.

Thomas knows that his image and reputation are on the line at the moment. People are watching and listeneing for his reaction to being sacked. If it ended on a (more) sour note with him slinging off at the people who sacked him he will only further tarnish his reputation.

Very calculated on his part. Enhance his reputation, get people to go away thinking what a great person he is, how big it is of him not to be bitter, how he is still putting the club ahead of himself and how on earth could St Kilda do such a thing...

Bollocks. The master of spin. The 5AA session sounds like it was a job interview for anyone that was listening.

Pagan to jump ship at the Blues, take over at the Saints and instantly mould them into the all-conquering force they've threatened to be for the past three years.

Guy was on a power trip and resisted any input from any qtr.....any great club is about team, both on and off the ground.

Sadly Thomas was about "I"

you wouldn't blame him one little bit if he did given the way he has been treated.

Drums are not loud on this ATM though

well, the players aren't happy about it. Reiwoldt said he was angry on sports tonight, and one of the others mentioned that he wasnt surprised because thyre good at sacking coaches who make the finals! personally i thought they might sack him, but im not sure he did deserve it! they have serious problems down at StKilda, i think the board should be the ones to go!

Its not so much the sacking that I have a problem with. My majot beef is with the club hiring a professional firm to head hunt coaches a couple of weeks ago while the Saints were still competing for a top 4 spot.

Coaches get sacked every year but there is a way to handle it. The way St. Kilda did it was a low act and Grant would have every right to be livid about it.

I'm with you on this. If you're going to get rid of someone at least be honest about whats happening, not just invite him into a room and say "your fired"
