now thats its looking more likely that we are actually going to land Judd, do you guys think we should be looking to add to that in trade week?

if we have to give up JK, as i think we may, do we have enough marking forwards up front to take some pressure off fev. althought JK wasnt quite there yet, i was really hoping he would turn into that extra threat, because as it stands sometimes we get a little 'just boot it to fevola and hope he marks it'. we need other options.

would tim boyle from hawthorn be worth looking at?

also we are still very weak in defence. we just got blown away last year, and altough we have some decent kids coming through, it wouldnt hurst us to get a more exprienced player down back, not only to shore things up, but also to provide a little leadership.

we are shaping up well in attack, but we are gonna get blown off the park again every week if we dont look into it

just my opinion

IMO it doesn't matter how good your backline is if the midfield refuse to put any pressure on the ball carrier. Hopefully BR & MR can create a hard tackling, pressure applying game style (4 quarters) to make the backs life a little easier this year. I'm was impressed with young Jamo this year, hopefully we can settle the backline to a regular 6-8 players.

i think our forward line is looking ok, especially if we keep JK..(fev,waite, fish ,jk, betts) not a bad forwardline. Dont forget last year we were one of the highest scoring sides, only problem was we were coping a lot mre going the other way.. we defenitely need more presence in the back line and someone with some experience to show some leadership..

In saying that though, whats going on with Bradshaw at the lions? is he available?

I would like to see JK stay, but if we use pick 3 & JK to get Judd it the price you has to pay.

But Drafting Matthew Kreuzer I think in his first few years they might play him more forward then slowly working into the Ruck.

The Defence is the big question, we need someone to stand up and play good football when taking on the AFL best power forwards.

Is there any player out there that we could trade for and the other clubs would give up? is Melbourne's full back worth looking at if his on the table.

That was Smorgan's youth policy!!!!! Things are different now.

True... but it's still something I reckon we'll want to stick to.

As for what we need to look for, the backline seems promising for the future with the young guys Ratts brought in at the end of the season, however we definately need three things in any backmen we look for (from other clubs):
1. Height - We've been caught short quite often against taller teams
2. Strength - This not only applies to backs, but is needed all over the ground. We need strong backmen in order to take on the likes of blokes such as J. Brown.
3. Speed - We haven't been quick enough off the mark, and as such, a Carlton defender is commonly 3 or 4 metres behind an opponent when the ball's coming into the defence. Too many uncontested marks are being taken by the opposition in our defensive 50.
