I think at the moment to loss of Ottens is hurting Richmond, Meyer and Pattison could turn out to be good players, but there is also a chance that they may disapoint as well.Richo83 said:This is the way I see it:
In: picks 12, 16 (Meyer and Patterson) and Simmonds.
Out: Ottens and Fiora.
Which group would you want? Fiora is a dud so I think we came out winners from that one.
Another thing, for the amount of money they pay Ottens, he should be doing more. For the amount of money we pay Simmonds, he is probably doing 90% asked, and will do whats needed this year.
Ottens' 2005 effort was a copout to the Geelong team considering how much they did to get him there.

WHAT... why pay him soo much his pay packet suggest he should be the number 1 ruckman or a 60-70 goal kickerchapmanmagic35 said:That's where you're wrong.
Thompson said frfom teh outset that he was a ruckmna/forward, who he expected to kick 35-40 goals and release the pressure off King.
Ottens was well on the way to doing that until he became injured.

Simmonds for 5 years is pretty hard to understand in my book, 3 years is a big contract for Simmonds let alone 5.
Fiora as well isn't nearly as bad as you guys are making out. He's struggled to come on, but still has a chance on making it in my book. I'm sure you guys would have been selling his potential whilst he was at the tigers but as soon as he leaves he becomes an out and out dud for some reason.

Lebowski said:This thread is just silly. Simmonds has never been as good a player as Ottens and never will be. Will Simmonds ever make the AA team? He is a hard working, average ruckman at best. Ottens is vital to the Geelong structure and will have a great year.
Last year would have been one of Otten's worst season's, so I wouldn't go too much on that. Even then Otten's best games were far superior to Simmond's best games. Struggled with injury a lot of the year, so to use that as a comparison to Simmonds isn't really saying much for Simmonds.Bentleigh said:Simmonds had a better season than Ottens last season.
'Ottens will have a great year' isn't all that strong an argument.

Simmo > Ottens
Troy is a tad under 200cm/100kg. He played 22 games and averaged 13+ touches, 6 marks, 1 goal, 14 hitouts per game.
Those types don't grow on tress.

Well going on stats alone, it was easily his worst year for average kicks per game, worst for average marks, worst for tackles, etc....Richo83 said:Actually, Otten's last season was probably his second best behind 2001, and I say that from a Richmond supporter's persective who has followed him for most of his career (But not now).
