that is where you are wrong my freind.. simmonds didnt have the best of years because he played mainly up forward however he got to every contest was always at the front na either marked it or brought it to ground where the rest is the small fellas job.. then later in the season dominated when fulltime in the ruck.. i remember him giving spider a good run for his money and after taping the ball was very good at getting his own ball in the middleOneEyedHawk said:That would be my main criticism of Simmonds. The fact that he doesn't hit contests.
I reckon both players lack heart. Simmonds provides value as a back-up Ruckman but I'd still take Ottens, even if he hasn't had a kick since 2001.
The Dice Man said:Oh well, we may as well put some statistical evidence into this one.
Season 2005.
Ottens averaged 11.27 disposals a game,
Simmonds averaged 13.23 disposals a game.
Ottens had 172 hitouts at an average of 11.45 per game
Simmonds had 304 hitouts at an average of 13.81 per game.
Ottens took 69 marks at an average of 4.6 per game
Simmonds took 123 marks at an average of 5.6 per game
Ottens $450,000 per year at an average of $30,000 per game
Simmonds $200,000 per year at an average of $9,090 per game

Frawley utterly destroyed Ottens. Will never be the player he could have been. Good on ya spud, and ya such a nice bloke to we're told.

He has been made out to be the answer to the Catters prayers by their supporters.
But Simmonds only trails by only 4 votes in the poll......:![]()

chapmanmagic35 said:The media have over beaten the Ottens situation up so much that when ever he plays a bad game, they're onto him.
Hence, the oblivious general public don't really know the full story.
Bentleigh said:Beaten up? You traded a first round pick and a gun midfeilder who a bloke who was sposed to be the 'missing peice'.
catempire said:That's where the beatup occurs - show me where anyone within the club ever said he was the missing piece. It's the media that has decided that.
Bentleigh said:Who gives a toss what the club says?
Its clear to everyone that Geelong is a good side with one of the best backlines, a young and impressive on ball group and some great mid/small forwards.
A Jono Brown type would take you from the 6 or so sides to a real contender.
Ottens was seen by many to be this KPP forward answer. The club wouldn't have traded so much 2 first round picks unless they expected him to be a key part of the side make up.

Bentleigh said:Is Simmonds really that bad a player?
Decent I would have thought for a ruckman/3rd tall
- 22 games
- 14 touches per game
- 6 marks
- 1 goal
- 1 point
- 1.5 tackles
- 14 hitouts
Beaten up? You traded a first round pick and a gun midfeilder who a bloke who was sposed to be the 'missing peice'.
Super Demon said:Well as you said .......Beamer is well on his way to being "Gun Midfielder" for the Dee's
However.........Moloney loves the Dee's and is very happy at the club.
As for the part that he looked longingly at his former team mates............Pffft
He must have enjoyed watching the catters great effort the following week.

catempire said:Yeah, shocking night that was! I felt sweet revenge when we belted you in the finals though, so I'm happy. We showed you up big time on the big stage in finals. Home and away counted for naught. So to give it to us for losing to Sydney is very rich.
