Has anyone else noticed this - whenever Richo isn't playing, Ottens always seems to do badly.

Once Richo is in, Ottens always comes to the fore. Take the Carlton game for example. Richo plays his worst game ever but Ottens takes all before him, kicking 4 goals straight. Richo is given a rest for his troubles and Ottens struggles to get a kick.

Point is that having Richo AND Otto in the forward line together is dangerous for the opposition as the both require heavy attention. When they are both together, most sides don't have enough troops to actually cover them properly. When there is one missing, the other tends to be overwhelmed.

Of course, kicking the ball in well would also help them out!

Is is just me or does it seem that Otto makes little difference in the ruck. That is, even when he wins the tap the opposition midfielders seem to take away the ball. Admittedly, our midfield is not great but when Staff is in the ruck we seem to get more first use of the ball. Is it that he will always be more of a forward and on occasion a ruck man?

Richo gets the best backmen and this allows Otto a better chance at getting the ball.
Richo playing also releives the pressure on Otto to kick all the goals.

One thing I noticed about Otto's ruckwork on Saturday night was that he won a hell of a lot of them.

Unfortunately, he won them so decisively that he actually plucked the ball out of the air and took possession.

Almost invariably he was then gang-tackled and ridden into the dirt.

Otto was then consequently so knackered after digging himself off the turf, he was slaughtered in the SECONDARY bounce ... and off Brissy went again !!

It happened so many times ...

Is Benny our ruck coach ??

Let me just throw this idea into the ring...

...could we try and lure Benny Gale out of retirement?

I know a youth policy is the way to go, but I reckon Benny's experience has been sorely missed, probably far more than we thought it would be.

A year of resting his weary bones would have done him a world of good and it is hardly as if he is Salmon's age.

Any thoughts?

no way, that is a backward step if i've ever heard one. we might as well talk Lounder in playing again.

Why bother replying to him? All he is after is attention.. As they say Don't feed the trolls!

One thing that I think is worth trying. Given the assumption that Otto plays better up forward when Richo is in the team (whether it's because Richo takes the best defender off him, or whatever?), why not play Richo at Centre Half Forward for the opening bounce, under intsructions to drop back across half back, ala Hird in the past 2 weeks.

And if Richo's guy, assuming it's Wakelin this week, goes back again, run Razor off Centre Half Forward to draw the prick out again.

Not only would this allow Otto room to move, AND without the so-called best defender in his way, but it would allow Richo to run around and take marks across half back and push forward at will.

Even give Leon licence to slip forward at times, or Chaff, or Staff, to take a grab in scoring range.

This ploy would work far better if Rory was also there to take a grab, AND Collingwood were too stupid to wake up to our plans until after our 8th goal of the quarter (ala Round 1)
