What if they went to Richmond (pre-Hardwick)?

Then you'd have to talk about richardson![]()
Judd won a brownlow in his 4th year, so THEY BETTER BLOODY STEP UP NEXT YEAR!
Ah Richo. The most overrated player of our time. The big man for the small occasion. Most certainly not truly elite.

Kidding right? The bloke was a superstar.
What did Richo win? How much did he make teammates better? Well-liked and likable. Maybe even enigmatic. But there are a bunch of players who get enough time on camera and their reputation goes up and up, and then far exceeds their actual abilities.

I'm not referring to draft picks at all. I'm saying guys like Judd, Pav, Goodes, Buddy, Riewoldt were going to be elite regardless of the club they played at.
Bolded are the awards which means something. I meant 'win something' as in trophies. Some of those things mean not that much. Just like how Priddis will probably win our B&F this year.
Nathan Buckley never won a trophy...was he not a superstar?
I didn't think too much about it when I chucked his name out, but the more I think about it, the more he fits into the hugely overrated basket.
Judd and Riewoldt, yes, both were considered absolutes locks to be AFL guns (there was a question mark over Judd's shoulders) - both displayed outstanding attributes and were highly professional in their preparation.
Not sure on Pavlich, but considering when he came to Fremantle, you would think he was always going to be a gun.
I don't think there was that absolute confidence about the other 2 though...
Franklin was considered an enigmatic talent - outstanding attributes and his best was scintillating - but there were some queries over his consistency, attitude and team play.
Goodes was a 3rd round pick. Was said to have been inconsistent with his performances during his draft year, but had an outstanding 1997 TAC GF where he was BOG.
Swift slid to pick 20 because he missed 2 years of football. I'm amazed that he went as high as he did considering the scouts didn't get to watch him play over that period. He got picked on reputation due to his amazing U16's form.
We can only speculate on where Swift would've been drafted had he played those 2 years. But given his U16's form, had that continued, Swift would've likely been a top 5 pick. A more knowledgeable, semi-professional, pundit in Colin Wisbey says so too. He labeled Swift's talent as worthy of pick 2 in a pre-draft profile. Saying otherwise is your opinion, but it's contrary to that of a far more knowledgeable source. Wisbey's opinions are sort after by Joe blows like us and professional recruiters. His views are highly respected by most.
In a way, Swift, was in a similar boat to that of Cousins. Both highly rated, but both had other factors involved in being selected as late as they did. I'm aware that the circumstances weren't the same.
Judd, Cousins and Kerr would of been guns at any club. We didn't develop Judd at all he was ready to go from his first wafl game.
Good lordthe problem was the finish to the end of 2009 - where WC finished artificially high for the quality of the squad and 2010 bought them back to the correct positioning.
For those that are interested - a couple of months ago I spent time with one of Trevor Woodhouses right hand men. I happen to know this guy pretty well as he has worked with my wife for about 7-8 years and we catch up perhaps twice a year at social events.
Because I'm the only one interested in footy at these dinners he sits next to me and talk invariably turns to WC and draft picks as I know he spends hours and hours and hours watching kids play all over Aust.
I asked him whether WC had made a strategy mid way through the year when a PP was on the offering as to whom they would have selected with picks 2 and 4. After being a little coy he admitted that such a list existed and said that Scully was always going 1, and that WC would probably have taken Martin at #2, knowing Melb would go with Trengrove leaving morabito at #4. As to pick 18 he said that it depended on who was available, but Fyfe and Bastinac headed their suggested list at that point.
Nothing against Sheppard who I think will be a very good player, but Martin, Morabito and Fyfe would be very nice indeed.
