So might be a few years before we see Pierce then heh.

Order of likelihood getting a game next year?

Wright
Murdoch
Saunders
White
Pierce

Although I do remember not many people expecting Siposs to be the first to get a game in 2011 or Newnes to be the first to get a game this year. Saunders to surprise!?
I reckon we'll see Saunders in 2013.

Murdoch could be a chance. Looks similiar to Dunell in that he can play anywhere, and it's probably easier to come in and play on a flank than come in and be a full time midfielder at that age.

Good luck to them if they progress quickly, but Siposs, Dunell, Ledger, Newnes, Ross, Ray and Schneider didn't play many games in 2012 and we have brought in 3 mature players (and only three departing players played more than half the games).

Well I'd say it depends where we are at at any particular time throughout the season.I'd assume the MC would plan the season out in 4 week blocks and try and achieve the set goals for that said block i.e amount of wins/development game time for a particular playeretc.. So we might be at the point in the season where would try and blood as many of the young draftees to get the balance right... SO in the end who knows what may pan out

Agree. I guess we'd expect Schneider and Ray to be the walk ins for the holes that Gram and Goddard left ( though I still se a bit of a dilemma with Schnieder, Milera, and Dennis-Lane - Schnieder makes us look slow IMO - when he plays deep he's like a very very skillful slow outside mid. ). Sippo put a fair few together, and he may be well on the way to cementing a spot. Dunell played the last 5 games, and I wonder if he's a logical choice for Gram's former role, ( or to release Geary to the midfield ). We need to get games into both Ross and Ledger.

I see Schneider as one of the best linkmen we have. His decision making when he has the ball is fantastic. Whilst we only won 4 of the 8 games he played in, 2 of the losses were against Sydney and Geelong and in the other 2 (also top 8 teams in Adelaide and North) he was one of our better players.

We have Geary and Newnes who can take the small forwards. Dunell and Siposs should hopefully be strong contributors at both ends. I'd prefer Sippa as a forward, but he did look good down back and the forward line looks crowded with Riewoldt, Hickey, Milne, Saad, Milera, Schneider and Stanley (let alone Wilkes, Koschitzke, Lee, and Dennis-Lane).

I'd put my money on Saunders, just quietly. But yeah, we're talking only a couple of games for each of them. 2013 is the year for our 2011/2012 players to bloom (Newnes, Ross, etc), along with Sippos and Stan the man.

He is brilliant but IMO if it comes at Milera's expense like it did last year I'd rather see Terry in there. I'm not even sure we missed Schneider when Milera was in full flight.

Steve Kretiuk “When you look at all the tall forwards in the competition this year he probably had the most upside and x-factor about his game,”

“He was a little bit inconsistent in the first half of the year but once he got down to the basics ... his footy went through the roof, (and) ... we were rapt that he went pretty much at the start of the second round.

“It’s a great testament to where he’s at and how much improvement he’s got in him.”

“We were scratching our heads midway through the year because his footy certainly didn’t come along and I think he was trying to do a bit too much and trying to do the things that he wasn’t accustomed to,”

“We went back to basics with him and we got him on a program that he had to complete every Tuesday before he could join the main group.

“it’s a great testament to him that he really understood what needed to be done and he put his head down and bum up.”

“Mentally he’s just got to get that hard edge about him in games which will come with a bit of maturity,”

“If he can harness all that - I think you’re going to see a pretty exciting player in the future.”

White looks like more of a traditional forward to me with great athleticism rather than a Buddy-style forward, and there's nothing wrong with that. For all the freakish things Buddy does sometimes you just want your FF to take a big grab and slot the goal, and White looks like he'll be able to do that whereas that's an area Buddy struggles with. Can't wait to see what he turns into.

White = Tex Walker
Yeah I like that comparison more. A more athletic Walker. :thumbsu:

Have to say though the highlight of him having a couple of bounces along the wing then slotting the goal did have some Buddy about it. If he can get his endurance up he could be anything.

How entertaining would it be if he did it at the MCG and it was Cale Hooker chasing him? :P

It would work on so many levels. Big stage, Hooker doing what he does best, him being the one that put the kibosh on the Brown trade which allowed us to draft White. Would be just too good.

Nice article on White. It's great to hear the behind the scenes stuff like how nervous they are leading up to the draft and then the joy he and the family get once his name is called out. Reminds me of that Blake video from earlier in the year.

He's got all the tools to become an absolute star, it's up to him now. :thumbsu:

Is there any way to compare the stats of our new guys to others drafted over the years? So say if I wanted to see how White's 36 goals or 30 in 10 games (or whatever it was) stacks up against some of the elite forwards to come through? Or Saunders' disposal average etc.

Pinched that from the Collingwood board. For anyone that's interested it's a VIC vs SA champs game that Wright and Murdoch played in. Think there's a couple more games on there as well.

Haven't had the chance to watch it yet but apparently Wright was a standout.

Just a couple of observations from the game:

Wright is seriously quick. His kicking wasn't too bad. Had a few nice long kicks but did shank a short one, but he was running extremely quick when he put it on the boot. We were talking about the need for a line breaker in the backline, we've definitely got one in Wright. His attack on the ball and the man is just as impressive. Took a nice intercept mark and didn't flinch. Would've been close to best on. Looks more HB to me than mid but we'll see what happens.

Murdoch was barely sighted but I can see why we picked him. At 187cm he's a good size for a flanker/winger and even though he didn't get many kicks you can tell its a strength of his game. Keeps the ball nice and low and there's no hesitation once he picks an option. I think there's another SA game on there so hopefully he gets more of it in that one.

Thanks for that hayes, I don't think that video is coming up on my computer and I don't have the time to watch it at this stage anyway, so it's good to hear your thoughts on it. :thumbsu:

Glad to hear all that about Wright and with Murdoch I think we may have picked him more on potential and maybe based on what he did when he first arrived in Adelaide (when he kicked 30 goals in his first 6 games, deep forward), rather than what he necessarily did in his games across HB and in the midfield this year, where his numbers weren't great. I think we're hoping he will get better in those positions once he's had more time getting used to playing there at the higher levels.
