It’s the bye-week everyone wants...waiting to see who you’ve got in the Prelim week!...so what better time to look back fondly on past champs and compare the current crop etc.

We’ve been blessed over the last 30+ seasons to have some of the best defenders in the comp...but who makes up our ‘best 6’?

Names to consider:

Michael Brennan
Darren Glass
David Hart
Shannon Hurn
Glen Jakovich
Jeremy McGovern
Ashley McIntosh
Guy McKenna
Brad Sheppard
Chris Waterman
Beau Waters
David Wirrpanda
John Worsfold

13 to consider - I’ve left Peter Matera off as his best was on a wing but he was a 2 time AA off Half Back if you want to consider him also.

I can confidently say I’ve seen enough of all these guys to make a judgement here...but it’s not an easy task!

I’m going:

Wirrpanda - Glass - McGovern
McKenna - Jakovich - Hurn

2 from each ‘Generation’ (not intentionally, just worked out like that)

Toughest Call: Hurn over Worsfold. Opting against Worsfold and Waters definitely takes a hard edge off this backline but I couldn’t go past Hurn’s kicking and reliability down back.

Have at it.

Hurn Glass Wirra
McKenna jackovich Gov

Dam me I left our woosha ...

Toss of the coin between him and hurn ...the others are automatic

The game has changed also

Sorry cant agree with the automatic call.Mcintosh was by far our best fullback.Fastest at the club over a sprint, bench pressed the most weight, take a screamer, kick a mile, fast enough to go with Dunstall, strong enough to go with Lockett, tough enough to go with Ablett.dodgy knees prevented a better/longer career. If i picked my all time best AFL team he would be the first bloke id put in at fullback followed by Dermie at CHF.

In terms of skill and talent, McIntosh > Glass and Hurn > Woosh but **** me it would feel weird to not have either Glass or Woosh in the all time WCE back line.

Peops forget how fast McIntosh was .
On speed he would have had Buddy covered by some margin.

Ash had line breaking speed , great overhead mark and a very long and accurate kick.

He is our best ever full back .

In-ter-est-ing...

Arrrgh poor choice of wording in a sprint he would have him covered.

McIntosh monstered the PSA athletics for Scotch in the 100 , 200 and 400 meters .
