Just thought I would share this.

Crowd Home team Score Away team Score Ground League Round
98,002 Geelong 13.14 (92) Collingwood 13.9 (87) MCG AFL Preliminary Final
97,302 Geelong 24.19 (163) Port Adelaide 6.8 (44) MCG AFL Grand Final
90,508 Essendon 11.13 (79) Collingwood 12.23 (95) MCG AFL Round 5
88,468 Essendon 13.14 (92) Richmond 17.17 (119) MCG AFL Round 21
85,497 Geelong 11.14 (80) Collingwood 9.10 (64) MCG AFL Round 15
77,630 Geelong 23.18 (156) Kangaroos 8.2 (50) MCG AFL Qualifying Final

Out of the top 6 attendances for this year, Geelong are the home team in 4 of them, including the top 2. I know that 3 were finals but that isn't the point :p
Congrats to all Geelong fans ans opposition fans that made this happen :thumbsu:

By the way these figures are from EVERY football code in Australia (which includes NRL, A-League, NRL State of Origin, etc.)

I reckon we have a lot of latent support out there. Hopefully that'll turn into memberships this year.

We have the potential to be a real powerhouse finanacially.

I missed the ballot last time. Imagine trying to get a ticket with another 10,000 members added to the list.

Hopefully next season all the single reserved seats will be snapped up and we can break the ground record (since redevelopment) a few times, i think the biggest crowd at Skilled will be our first home game next year.

i concur - but - tho' they may have been finals and a pies game, we are still up in a list that includes other special occassions as well (anzac, hird/sheeds lovefest) - be naive to think corporates and afl members don't turn up to these games as well.

who knows, we may have got more for the 'dons@dome if held at the 'g respectively.

getting 75,000 at the match against the kangas is a fantastic figure, even if it was a finals match. We really aren't that far behind the Dons and Maggies in drawing power. Its just that they get the hype about blockbusters and we don't.

Nah, i really think we are way behind Ess and Coll, and quite a bit behind Rich and Carlton.

Success brings out supporters and it did that this year, i just a lot of the bandwagon supporters are around when the team isn't doing so well.

I reckon Geelong have always had very strong latent support - could be something to do with our style of play, which has always been a little more renowned for its skill and pace (and lack of aggression) than some other teams. That may attract more 'neutral' support. We've never really had a chance to show off that support due to having the smaller home stadium. Check out our Melbourne crowds- they're just as strong as many of the 'Big Four'.

Dunno about that. Obviously there are band wangoners, but that is much true as a team like Collingwood as ourselves. It is very hard to make any sort of comparisons because all sorts of factors go into making a crowd size. Take Collingwood, for example, home ground of the MCG, they will get around 45,000 guaranteed for low drawing opposition, we will get 21,000, but then that is our capacity now at KP. In comparing similar matches at the G, about the only match to compare is V Melbourne where we got 38K and they had 45K. Not really a big difference and a large number of differences between them would have affected the numbers.
