what do you reckon is our best 22?

here is my attempt:

B: Chaffey Gasper Kellaway
HB: Bowden Shultz Raines
C: Deledio Coughlan Newman
HF: Brown Simmonds Pettifer
F: Krakouer Richardson Rodan
R: Knobel Johnson Tuck

INT: Tambling Hall Jackson Hyde
EM: Stafford Hartigan Hughes Foley

I think it is pretty much established that Simmonds will not be CHF this year. He'll be starting ruck and Knobel to swap off the bench (IMHO).

CHF is going to be a gaping hole for us. I expect us to have a dummy CHF (Stafford/Pattison/P Bowden?) or constantly rotate smaller, mobile players through there. I'd actually like to see Deledio have a few quarters there during the year. His body is not up to it, but he is very good overhead. James Hird played CHF a few times early in his career, and I see many similarities in the style of game they play.

richo will spend most of the year at chf. no gaping hole unless he goes down. we have a host of players who can play ff. staff, patto, hughes, p. bowden, jackson or even browny.

This is the team I like:

B: Newman Gasper Kellaway
H/B: Raines Schultz J.Bowden
C: Deledio Coughlan Chaffey
HF: P.Bowden Richo Pettifer
FF: Brown Stafford Tambling

R: Simmonds Tuck Johnson

Int: Knobel Hartigan Hall Krakouer

Unlucky - Hyde, Thursfield, Rodan, Foley

Chaffey is still our best small/medium defender, and if he's fit will be walk into our starting 18.

Here's how I'd like to see them start, in a perfect injury-free world.

B: Chaffey Gasper Kellaway
H/B: Newman Hall J.Bowden
C: Deledio Coughlan Hyde
HF: Schultz Richo Pettifer
FF: Brown Stafford Krakouer

R: Simmonds Tuck Johnson

Int From: Knobel Raines Hartigan P.Bowden Tambling Rodan Thursfield

If Chaff is not ready, then Raines comes into starting 18.

Is this our best 22 or our most likely line up Round 1?

I will choose our BEST 22

B: AK - Gaspar - Hartigan
HB: J. Bowden - Schulz - Johnson
C: Deledio - Coughlan - Hyde
HF: Rodan - Pettifer - Krakouer
F: Brown - Richardson - Stafford

R: Simmonds - Tuck - Newman

Emg: P. Bowden - Tambling - Foley

B: Kellaway - Gaspar - Raines

R: Simmonds - Tuck - Johnson

Int: Chaffey - Hall - Hyde - Hartigan
Emg: Krakeur- Tambling - Foley

In no way wishing to put a downer on this thread but the good news appears to be that we dont have a best 22 anymore we have almost developed a Best 25-30, giving us choices and options for most positions and some injury insurance and depth. Sure there is a way to go but the fact that there are actually options is indication things are improving. It also means of course that crap performance will no longer be tolerated too long! roll on those days!

there seem to be a fair few teams without Rodan, I would have thought we was a certainty to be in your best 22 at least, I have heard that he has had a good pre-season, any reason some of u guys are leaving him out:confused:

Good point. He's been in our best in every practice game and plays the type of game Terry loves too. He'll be there, and deserves to be.

He can play Center Half Forward ok and would kick 1 or 2 every couple of games but would much prefer him as a backman.

razor

Im surprised many of you have left big razor hall out of your starting back brigade let alone squad! Can anybody doubt the fellas endeavour. Has claimed some big scalps recently i.e big bad barry, and all though not being the prettiest most orthodox footballer can make his presence felt on a key defender. I would back him before shultz to keep somebody kickless, and create a bit of play. For those that have seen him in the rooms before a match... a possesed scary man with the tiger toughness we need, he generally takes his aggression to the field and makes players earn their kicks.
This year's big mover- watch for Dean Polo to march his way into the starting 22 mid year, courageous as they come and knows how to find it.
All things aside by far the most optimistic post i've seen thus far, every team posted has players missing out who i believe would get games elsewhere.
Go tiges!
