This is a lot harder than i thought!

B-Slattery, Fletcher, Lovett-Murray
HB-Nash, Ryder, Houli
C-Stanton, McVeigh, Lovett
HF-Davey, Lloyd, McPhee
F-Monfries, Lucas, Jetta
R-Hille, Watson, Welsh
I-Laycock, Reimers, Lonergan, Winderlich

Emerg-Myers, Neagle, Ramanauskas

I purposely left out Gumbleton, Dempsey, Hocking, and Hislop because they are often injured and havn't shown enough yet. Also because i couldnt fit everbody in and these 4 were the only players I had an excuse for!

Can't fault that side.

Sounds like your 1 of those fans that only notice the superstars and Flashy players of our great game!

Henry Slattery puts his body on the line for this club each and every week. He gets inside the heads of his opponents and takes them out of the game, e.g- Didak this past weekend! also, his disposal and run out of the backline is improving every week!

He is an important player in this essendon team!

Gumbleton, Dempsey and Myers are only being named in people's best 22 because of potential. Perhaps when they get their bodies right and play some good games, they will push Slattery out of the best 22.

Those 3 players would all be in the team if fit, not just on potential. What is the point of listing the best 22 if we should ignore unfit players? We may aswell just look at the team picked for last week.

You are a long way of the mark with your assessment of me.

I am a realist, Slattery is not up to it. Yes he puts his body on the line, he is very courageous, but that is all he has, he is too slow and he continually gives away free kicks at crucial stoppages due to crude tackling. If he is in our 22, then we had better do some serious drafting of defenders, because people would laugh at him being in our best 22.

You sound like one of those supporters who think that just because we have won a few games, we have an awesome team out on the park. We still have many areas to improve before we can compete with the big boys.

After apologising to the players who i thought were no good & after being proved wrong its time for another shot.
Our best 22:
B - Slattery Fletcher Dempsey
HB - Reimers Ryder Houli
C - Stanton Watson Lovett
HF - Jetta Lucas Lloyd
F - Davey Neagle Monfries
Ruck - Hille Welsh McVeigh
Int - Winderlich, Laycock, Myers, Lonergan
Emer - Hislop Nash Atkinson

I far from think we have an awesome team out on the park. I think we have a very capable team out on the park. But as you can see i havn't included Rama, Pev, Michael, Dyson, and Atkinson in our best 22!

As for giving away free kicks...what do you think of Lovett-Murray?

His best and worst are so far apart. He is an OK player, but I don't think he is that good a defender.
Just thinking about it, we really need to get some good defenders into the team soon. Hopefully Pears and Daniher come through, because without Fletcher it could be our Achilles heel and if you look at Geelong, they have a gun midfield, but their defense is just as good and important.

I'm glad you didn't include those players in your team, like Slats they are servicable, but should not be part of our long-term plans IMO.

Well we definitely don't see eye to eye on Slatts. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I strongly believe Ryder is our next Fletch. Now he is a player who impresses me more very week.

I also think we need to draft another Centre Half-Back. I hope Pears can come through, i know its still very early, but to me he seems to be a utility type player. Maybe even Hooker.

i absolutely agree! The coaches and club think very highly of slattery which is why he was one of the first youngsters to be signed up to a 2 year deal. he is an integral part of our side. Onya Slats!

Henry Slattery- Dustin Fletcher - Mal Michael
Bachar Houli - Paddy Ryder - David Myers
Alwyn Davey - Mark McVeigh - Kyle Reimers
Andrew Lovett - Scott Lucas - Adam McPhee
Jay Neagle - Matthew Lloyd - Angus Monfries

F: David Hille - Andrew Welsh - Jobe Watson

IC: Brent Stanton - Leroy Jetta - Sam Lonergan - Jason Laycock

Apologies to Dempsey among others, who's a super player.

Will be interesting when Gumby gets fit. The great thing is we have so much depth now that if one of our key forwards go down next year, or key midfielders or even our backmen to an extent, we have so much depth to cover them, as we saw on the weekend.

At the moment if no one was injured and we had ALL our players available

FB: Dempsey - Fletcher - Slattery
HB: Houli - Ryder - NLM
C: Lonergan - Watson - Reimers
HF: Lloyd - Mcphee - Lovett
FF: Neagle - Lucas - Davey
R: Hille - Welsh - Stanton
Inter: Nash - Winderlich - Jetta - Monfries

Emerg: Laycock - Myers - Rama

Backline - Fletch still in good nick, Slatts tough & Dempsey freakish
Half - back line - Ryder seems comfortable at CHB now and NLM is strong in the air and can chop him out where needed. Houli provides good disposal and run
Centre - 3 players all in good form and Watson is a ball magnet
Half Forwards - Lloyd at his best when he can roam across half forward now and lay big tackles & chip in with the odd 50+ metre goal. Mcphee very strong in the air and good at bringing the ball to ground where Lovett can mop it up
Forwards - Lucas a better full forward than Lloyd now, Neagle a good marking target and Davey provides the magic
Rucks - Hille one of the best big men going round, Welsh a tough ruck rover & good stopper, Stanton has a huge engine
Interchange - Most of these players unlucky to miss and all provide good run off the bench
Emergencies - Cannot have Laycock in the starting 22 with Hille in great form and Ryder down back and Lucas up forward able to pinch hit in the ruck. Rama a club ledgend and Myers coming along nicely

If we are able to get all these players fit and firing next year then we will certainly push for finals. Go Dons!!
