I was trying to find an injury list today, closest thing I could find was the weekly health report which doesn't even mention half of our injured players.
This prompted me to ask the bloke next to me at work what the Carlton website is like and he showed me.
Their site has an injury list along with plenty of other content and compared to ours, it blows us away.

Our website has dropped the ball.

Carltons is full of news and useful stuff like injuries. http://www.carltonfc.com.au/injury

Hover your mouse over the "news" link on our site and it's virtually empty http://www.geelongcats.com.au/news-and-media
Hover your mouse over Carltons news and media link and look how many links there are.

Our website is almost devoid of life. The latest news article is 2 days old, and it's game day today FFS

Hopefully someone with links to the clubs media department see this thread and compare our website to Carltons and see how useless it has become.

LIFT....

The quality and content of the website has dropped dramatically this year.
The podcast used to be a weekly thing last year and we have to wait until after round 6 to get one this year.
The news wrap video is a joke and a waste of time.
Over the last few years there would be player interviews/videos, particularly in the pre-season. This year SFA.
Occasionally we used to get a VFL video feed. These days nothing. The match day twitter feed isn't too bad though.
The only thing that hasn't changed is the injury update. Still pretty pointless.
I don't know if it's a slashing of the budget and/or the obvious change in the media content staff, but things a going backwards at a rapid rate and it's pretty piss poor to be honest.

Once we drop down the ladder (if we ever do) and it's harder to retain members and sell seats in the next stand that's coming they'll pick up their game.
Right now they don't really give a shit, they don't have to it's just the way it is.

They are worried about the internet

I was talking to my work colleague whose daughter made the VFLW squad this year a few days ago. She was telling me her daughter found out on Tuesday she'd made the cut. The squads for all VFLW teams were added on the VFL website on Thursday, however there's no mention of who's in our squad anywhere on our website two days later.

Um, for longer than I can remember all club websites are done by Telstra, as mandated by the AFL. This is forced by the AFL onto all clubs. They get charged so much, and all the articles, format etc are essentially the same.

You’re bang on, they need to bring it internal, the website is tragically slow, saturated with useless information, poor navigation and Ill formatted.

You're right to a point.
I do remember there was a mexican stand off between Essendon & the AFL quite sometime ago when the Bombers decided to go it alone and not go with Telstra. They were eventually pulled back to the flock by the AFL.
While Telstra are in charge of formatting, guidelines etc for all club websites, each club has the ability to publish their own content on the website as per the guidelines laid out by Telstra & the AFL.
Every club has an IT/media department that can and does publish personalised content to the specific needs of that club. The department responsible for that at Geelong are a joke and IMO incompetent. I'm not sure if they're running on a shoestring budget these days or they just hired buffoons for the role (I'm pretty sure jobs were advertised for these roles at the end of last year).
It's blantantly obvious something has changed at Geelong as the website to be frank is now a joke and is arguably the worst of any of the clubs.
It's pathetic and embarrassing.

Amen. Like something from 2005. Occasionally they put up galleries, but you can't view them on a mobile. It's slow, poorly designed and far too reliant on video. How many members do we have now? Remarkable their comms are going backwards.

I remember in the mid 2000's the Telstra deal came in and all club websites went backwards dramatically except for Essenon's who still had their own thanks to Three Mobile who had a team keeping everything right up to date.

The inability to modernise the club website is a drawback, very unfriendly to use. And like others have said the content is hopeless. I don't visit the club website for anything except accessing the club shop.

Telstra have a monopoly. No doubt they fleece the shit out of the clubs for anything and everything related to web content. They probably charge by the letter or some shit.

I basically never go to the club web site ... frankly it is not the club web site, it is a Telstra/AFL web site.

Mmmm... care factor is ZERO on the GFC website.
As I get all my info on this site... 100 times better.
Cheers Boys and lets move on to important stuff.

And it can stay that way. Keep the men's and women's teams seperate.

How is it still living in the 1950's?
Pathetic comment.
We should be proud of our involvement with women's football and as a team they're part of the Geelong Football Club and deserve recognition not just on our website.

There's a separate section for the VFLW news though - but it's rarely updated.

How? Pathetic is vitriol directed at someone who doesn't share your view. Happens far too regularly on this forum.

Keep em seperate. A lot of people aren't interested in the women's league and shouldn't have to contend with women's news.

Last year there was an article that said 'star player requires knee reco.'

A bit off putting when you click the article fearing the worst.

Pathetic is a blatant sexist post and that deserves a level of vitriol.

If you're not interested in women's football don't read it, it's not that hard.

I stand by my comment, and maybe you should eat a bag of cement if you want to post comments like you did on this thread.

Sexist. :drunk:

And it's not that hard to have seperate sites either. :rainbow:

Jordan Ivey is a star though. :P

I do understand your point though, but it was a poorly thought out headline IMO.
