I think when it comes to height its our forward line we should be worried about. Currently we have Brown, Hansen and Kennedy all up forwards with Cox and NicNat resting up there from time to time. Thats freaking huge and easy to match up on when all 4 of those boys are going up for the mark and no ones staying down.
This 'pleb' has been saying the exact same thing for a very long time.

And yes our backline is too tall as well.

For mine Backline :

B Jones Glass McGinnity

Hurn Schofield A Selwood

J Jones to replace B Jones in the next 1-2 years.

Sheppard and McGinnity to rotate on ball and back pocket, would like to see Strijk step into the side and become another small back option, understand he has great footskills and pace.

And the forward line:

Waters Kennedy Hams

NN/Cox M Brown Le Cras

Over the next 1-2 years Weedon and Kerr to rotate through the pocket when NN / Cox rest on the bench. Basicaly one pocket is used to either change up or down the forward to being taller or shorter / faster depending on the opposition and how we are going. Waters as the defensive HFF and kamakzie weapon.:D

PS: I hope A Selwood releases Butler to play further up field, Butler passing inside the forward 50 is a much, MUCH better option IMO. Its whether his body is up to playing midfield will determine if he can do this or remain a HBFer.

Please match committee refrain from giving Spangher a spot in the back 6. He is RUBBISH. Terrible footballer, shocking skills, poor one-on-one and worst decision maker in the team.

Hopefully the Blues still want him.

I'm a fan of Butler playing on the HBF, but with so many options at HBF and BP is it feasible to use Butler and/or Sheppard on the wings in the future?

Considering how many posessions wingers usually get, is it a fair idea to use 2 of our better users of the ball to be constantly close to the play to get the most out their good ball use?

Butler's finally got his groove on in the BP.

His body is clearly on the fragile side - so i would have thought a wing/midfield role with the extra running would more likely shorten his career. Just a thought.

Yeah, Butler's spoiling efforts in the back line have impressed me.

I made this suggestion while trying to figure out how we're going to play all the guys who should be getting games without leaving out deserving or promising players.
The team has an over abundance of HBF and BP types, while not having good kicking skills in the wing positions. Stevenson excluded, but he isn't getting games yet.

I'm concerned that while the likes of Rosa, Houlihan and Dalziell can get plenty of the ball, I'm not confident the ball is going to be delivered where it should when they get it. Hence the suggestion of having the likes of Sheppard, Butler and Stevenson featuring in those positions.

Fair call regarding Butler's proneness to injury perhaps being a hindrance to being a winger.

Agree with OP. Brown forward gives us flexibility if E-Mac/Schofield getting beaten. Spangher ditto but FFS KEEP HIM OUTTA THERE UNLESS WE ARE DESPERATE !!!

Glass/E-Mac, Hurn, Butler, Waters is very solid. Good Marking, tackling, spoiling and good height mix. We need some speed though, and that's where Sheppard etc come into. Maybe I am thinking too far ahead - our backline in 3 years will look entirely different to now with Glass and Bones gone with Butler and Waters 'getting on'.

Putting it simply, 2 talls is enough but we need 1-2 others who can play the role if needed. Waters and Butler as the solid smaller backs, Hurn as the 'Quarterback' and any combination of Selwood/Sheppard/Bones providing the run and pace. Not forgetting that Schofield/Hurn are pretty good at that too.

By next year or the year after hopefully Selwood won't be a regular midfielder and will be playing off the bench as a tagger/midfielder/backline stopper. Sheppard, Stevenson or Ash Smith can then take BJones' spot with Selwood an option if we need more of a pure negator.
