Are frankly laughable.
It is the glaring weakness of the side.
We concede some of the stupidest goals you would ever witness with sloppy play down back, and we have several midfielders who won't run both ways.
If we can tighten that up, we will improve markedly.

Backline lost us the game today IMO. None of them can kill the ball by punching over the line. Lets the ball over the back way too easily. Lagging behind their opponent my 5-10m on leads.

I have always felt one of our biggest problems is we are no good when we don't have the ball. We simply get exposed on the counter attack too easily. Some sides can choke the opposition, we can't and until we know how too we wont be winning to many finals.
I would love to know how many goals were kicked in the last 5-10 minutes of each quarter by the crows today?

Correct.

We are soft as butter going the other way.

Our rolling zone was mildly annoying to the crows at best.

The waltzed up the ground most times.

This is the reason we lose games.

The focus from now on has to be defence defence defence.

There are a number of people on this board who are that clueless that they believe our back 6 is top 4 worthy, frankly that is absolute horse s***, it is a glaring deficiency in our game plan and needs to be rectified if we are going to move forward

I think it's more geared to what B&WE was referring to going the other way.

When we don't have the ball we're f****ing unaccountable.

We allowed the ball out the back too often in the last quarter imo which opened it right up for em, the only way they could win was rolling the dice and getting out the back in hope.

Sometimes its the mids, but in the last two weeks the back 6 save a few have been a disaster. Its just a mess.

Our defending today was abysmal, 53 inside 50s resulting in 35 scoring shots, that is 3/4 of inside 50s resulted in a score, that is putrid defending.

They weren't helped by the midfield, but I haven't seen so many people go to ground since I last went to an ice skating ring.

Our defence had a shitty day but the bolded is absolutely clear now. And it's been allowed to be this way for 3 going on 4 seasons.

Who are the midfielders that don't run both ways? Basti for sure. Who else?
I think we have ended up with ALOT of poor decision makers, both defensively and when the game is in th balance. Very underrated skill.

my take on an unfortunate loss is that we first have to acknowledge that adelaide are a good footy side
they are skillful and they make good decisions
we are good enuf to get 5 goals in front of them
we are not good enuf to stay 5 goals in front

every qtr was the same, charge out of the blocks and then get pegged back
it was a shoot out, we lost
lets not crap on that we are a better side than adelaide, we arent
the backline eventually caved in becos the crows had a plan and their mids are very creative
they had guys running into space and when it mattered they made very few mistakes

daw was a disaster apart from a few taps
wright choked
we need to keep an eye on black he just does not impact a game and looks around too much
has skill but needs to do the hard things

hard to see the backline closing down a skilled forward line until macca jnr comes on board
just lack class down back mullett and jmac not quite right
think we must play hine we need toughness more than anything else
gibbo is ok and I will suggest a name
LA
remember when we were winning
he was in the team
we DO NOT have enuf runners without him in the team
Out: wright adams
In: hine LA

agree with everyone else who says our defense stinks, not just the back 6, the mids that refuse to run both ways, the forwards that put minimal pressure on their opponents when they have posession, the failure to negate oppositions strengths, maybe we need some new blood in the defensive coaching ranks, is it still flappers watson ?, if so he needs to get some assistance from someone familiar with the modern game asap

Defensive structures? What structures? Do we have any? Since 14 minute mark when we were 30 points up, they scored 5.2 from 7 inside 50s. Do your math...

Posted this in another thread, but we're 5th for points for and 6th for points against. Defence is 100% the problem. The number of times the opposition go end to end untouched is out of control.

And it's not just our back 6 that's the problem. Ordinary forward pressure and manning up from the midfield.

Our fitness also needs to be brought into question. We had a 9 day break this week and we looked spent halfway through the last quarter.

If we continue to try take the game on with scant regard for protecting the counter attack we are going to get analed again and again.

The problem with your argument is that while we were taking the game on we were 30 points up. In the last 15 minutes we were NOT taking the game on. Instead we were just trying to play it safe and don't know how to do that.

Or is our game plan unsustainable? I remember someone somewhere mentioning that.

We are getting rolled after making even the very best look ordinary at times.

I was amazed at how many times Adelaide were allowed to mark uncontested inside the square on the way out of defence.

Even the Dogs were going coast to coast pretty easily. Port did it 500 times. No one should be surprised that Adelaide were.
