Whilst Saturday was a disappointing day for all of us who made the trek to Sydney, it goes without saying what an amazing supporter base we have. Having over 10,000 Bomber fans inside the SCG was the only reason they broke their attendance record there and the streets of Sydney were full of red and black all day which was such a great sight to see. I still vividly remember Dyson Heppell walking towards the cheer squad at the start of the game with a big grin on his face just in awe of the amount of support we had.
I feel we are constantly underrated in terms of our support and it rarely gets mentioned in the media or on social media. Everyone goes on about the "Tiger Army", but the day Essendon is in the same position challenging for flags just you wait and see us get 90,000+ at the G in finals regardless of who we are playing. Constantly throughout the year we outnumbered opposition fans in their "home games" and turned it into a Pro-Essendon crowd. To have the 2nd highest attendance of any club this year when we only just scraped into the 8 after all the crap we've been through is a testament to how great our supporters are. Not even Richmond could manage 40K+ crowds against teams like Fremantle and Brisbane, and as we improve more and more will want to go watch us play.
It was a shit result on Saturday, but I already can't wait to be there round 1 next year seeing us fill stadiums week after week as we only get better. And if you're not a member already, sign up because we're in for a wild ride the next few years, and you'll be regretting it when you can't get access to a Grand Final ticket.
