We need a forward much less than we need a decent ruckman and midfielders, so no, I wouldn't do that deal.

Our first pick for Jolly? Yeah, I might do that one.

G is gone, should we go after Fevola or is it a sin to give up your first pick in the draft? Keep in mind Peake is our new full time man who helped build Geelong with a string of 9th picks in the draft.
And father son rules. Geelong have probably had a more preferable draft run than us when that is taken into account.

Not keen on Fev unless it is second round and maybe Watts, but they would not accept that.

Besides, he would be after too much cash which may destablise our loyal boys, not to mention his off field antics (not that we do not have our fair share of issues).

I reckon KPB we require most.

If Gardiner was to be fit, IF, could he play as a FF?

As a pinch hitter only. He's a ruckman/forward, not a forward. He and Kosi could share ruck and rotate forward, but frankly Kosi is a much better forward than Gardiner.

So we would still really need another decent ruckman even if our injuries miraculously vanished.

Key back, then key ruck is required.

Probably the two most difficult positions to draft for.

Sauce, I've pulled some quotes from Bigfooty Drafting/Trades Thread:

Likely Draft Picks
1. Matt Kruezer (Carlton)
2. Rhys Palmer (Richmond)
3. Cale Morton (Carlton)
4. Brad Ebert (Melbourne)
5. Lachlan Henderson (Bulldogs)
6. Trent Cotchin (Bombers)
7. Chris Masten (Freo)
8. Cyril Rioli (Brisbane)
9. Alex Rance (Saints)
10. Tayte Pears (Sydney)
11. Levi Greenwood(Crows)
12. Ben McEvoy (Magpies)
13. Tom Collier (Roos)
14. Adam Maric (Hawks)
15. David Gourdis (Eagles)
16. Scott Selwood (Power)
17. Jack Grimes (Cats)
18. Pat Vetzpremi (Tigers)
19. Steven Gaertner (Blues)
20. Scott Simpson (Demons)

Myers is good. But i see Rance as better (I.e Having a better career).
But in saying that, the only thing they have in common is that their both defenders.

Rance reminds me of a young Darren Glass. Humble, level-headed, down to earth kid that is willing to learn. Alot more attacking and has a way better kick (well its not hard to beat Glass in a kicking comp lol) and reads the play well. If he can get to the same build as Glass whilst keeping hes speed... Watch Out!!

Fevola will not be traded. In fact, hardly anyone will be traded.

What would I give up for Fevola? I would start the bidding at a 2nd rounder + a player, and would eventually go up to 1st rounder + player. But that is about it - he is not worth selling the family china for.

That would be a very bad move in my opinion. We trade our 1st and 2nd round picks and we won't have a selection until 43 if I've worked it out correctly (barring trading for other picks of course). We have to pick up at least three picks, probably more seeing as we've already had three retirements, so that means 43, 59, 76 and so on.

Given the shallowness of this draft, that would mean we've all but written it off, in exchange for a full forward with many questions over his head.

We need midfield pace, look for Masten to go at 9, unless Ben McEvoy is still there, a special player at 199cm, I rate him the best KPP in the draft by a mile. Also look to draft a an aborigianl with explosive pace, ala the Port mold.

Well said St DAC.

I doubt Carlton will let Fev go anywhere unless it was an offer absolutely too good to refuse.

We must keep the #9 pick.
I agree pretty much 100%. Fev isn't going anywhere, will be a required player at Carlton. I really hope we keep pick number 9. Is Luke Beveride no longer our recruiting guy? Who is the new guy and whats he like?

There's a fair chance that Masten and McEvoy will be gone by pick 9 I would have thought. Who do you think St Kilda's 3rd option would be, possibly Rioli if you're after an aboriginal with explosive pace?

I didn't say that ... I'd recruit Darren Jolly for the #9 pick is Sydney were willing. (which I doubt, and if I were them I wouldn't). Jolly is a quite capable ruckman (not as good as Cox, but who is?) and he and Gardiner would make a very decent ruck combination freeing Kosi to be primarily a key forward. That'd be worth the #9 pick IMO.

But unless that was the deal I'd be inclined to keep #9 and take a draftee.

I'm all for keeping our first round draft pick and if we can get a good key backmen then nows the time. Max probably hs 1-2 years left which will give the kid time to develop. Whoever said max wasn't up to the number 1 forward is a little harsh, he had a bad year with injury but when he was out there he was good, closing speed is still there and if he keeps that he'll be ok on anyway

Agree, the only back that gets the better of him is Neitz. He has an amazing record.

He will keep getting injured though, as he is getting older. We need cover for him, but will still be number one back if fit.
