Possible trade of someone like Jericho/Massie/McGregor etc; not as a straight deal, but maybe to upgrade our 4th round to a 2nd or something.

You cant be serious to think someones going to give us a an upgraded pick for any of those players mentioned in this strong draft.

Good post vlbl. I probably shouldn't have talked Hurley up too much. I have him inside my Top 5, but if any of them were to slide I think it would be him because he probably won't test too well at Draft Camp. Pipe dream for sure.

If we had the choice between Hartlett and Ziebell I'd take Hartlett without hesitation. I love Ziebell, I really do, but **** Hartlett oozes class and he is a brilliant kick of the pill. A little skinny for my liking but I think he's the second best mid behind Rich in this draft. FWIW, I have Hartlett going Top 5 as well.
You seem to have good knowledge of this years draft. I concur with most things you have said. Hartlett and Hurley are likely to go in the top 5. Along with Natanui, Rich and Watts, these kids are the favourites to make up the top 5 picks. Hartlett is a very good midfielder who had a solid carnival. Was much more impressive then Rich. Hurley is a big boy for his age and is good enough to hold down the KP areas all around the ground. Do not think that Adelaide will get the chance to pick him up. Personally hope we can snare him. Ziebell may be an option at your pick. He is likely to go from 4-10. Draft Camp will be very important though so it is all very premature.

my personal top 3 best scenario would be
pick6-hartlett - great skills, pace - midfielder
pick22-rockliff - great goal sense, reader of play - for/mid (in short bursts ala neon and sj)
pick38-schoenmakers - great natural ability, good at bringing others into play - forward

(havent seen rockliff so I am going on the posts of others)

I like the look at that very much.
A few weeks ago i was very much on the sidebottom bandwagon, and still am but considering our slip out of the 8 ziebell or hartlett may be on the cards. More likley ziebell

I am also a fan of rockliff and picking him at 22 would not be wasted.

I think we may struggle to se schoey around at that pick but the themes you are playing at are very good.

What i dont like about the picks you have is the thought the both carlton and richmond will finish above us.

Oh yeah, I would like to state that I am still well and truly keen for Sidebottom with our first pick. Just thought I'd talk about a couple of other blokes in this thread. ;)

VC, if we were to pick up a KPP with pick 8, who are you most keen on?
I'd actually like to throw that one back to the board - is Lewis Johnston good enough for Pick 8? I've seen him twice and he impressed me a lot. SA boy with a fantastic set of hands and a big body. Seems to have good courage too. I'd like to hear a bit more about him that have seen him a bit more than I have.

BTW, great job on your phantom in the D + T board. I didn't want to say too much on there in case I offended anyone else, but it's the first good one I've seen so far this year. :thumbsu: Another good one popped up this arvo from OrangeCutter.

I like OrangeCutters Phantom as well

Adelaide - Nick Natanui
A lot of people won't agree with me letting him slide this far but the draft is two strong to use a top 5 pick on a player with upside when so many others already have upside showing, You may argue they need a ruck you may not, but I see NickNat as a utility atm, who knows what possie he will ultimately play, Adelaide will be well within their right to take a punt on him.

Everyone is going nuts about Johnston but I don't rate him as highly as others on this board. It'd be a waste for us picking up Johnston because we've already got an identical forward on our books in Walker only Walker does everything Johnston can do only better. It's not that Johnston is a bad player but It'd be a massive reach if we grabbed him with our first pick. If I had to choose for our club between Schoenmakers and Johnston I'd take Schoey. IMO Is the lead up CHF type player we crave so badly and has excellent footskills for a bloke of his height. For another club Johnston would be a decent pick up in the priority pick - pick 25 range but not for us.

The more this season goes on the more I'm convinced we'll snare one of Hartlett/Naitanui/Hurley. If we get one of those three (esp. Nait/Hurley) I'll be ecstatic. All depends on the results of Adelaide v Richmond, Adelaide v Carlton and Adelaide v Essendon but if our pick falls in the 5-6 category then we'll get one of those kids (IMO).

Thanks for the feedback. Like I say, I was mightily impressed by him when I saw him at the Champs, but you only get a snap shot of the player. It's great to get feedback from others that get to see him a bit more often. I'll be asking about a few more SA players as the year goes on too.

No way Naitanui slides to our pick though. To be honest...I'm still not sure that I'd want him. I actually haven't thought about it until now really...

A player I really like the look of is Sam Blease, do people ( Vic Crow ) think that he could go as a high pick and what are peoples thoughts on the kid?

I have him as a bolter.

A couple of people I've spoken to don't rate him that highly, but I personally rate him pretty highly.

I wouldn't take him with our first pick, but if he was there at our 2nd I'd be happy if we took him.

He's a bit out of fashion atm though is all. 3 months ago he was a lock at pick 1, now it's nowhere near a done deal. If anything Watts is a lock at 1 so long as Melbourne finish bottom. My mail is the Eagles want Rich bad but others seem to think they're not sold on his ability to shake a tag. Not sure which to believe really. You've then got Freo who in all likelihood could take Naitanui but (if they're smart) they'll take Hurley. He's still my favourite kid in this draft. Hypothetically though lets say they take the local boy in Naitanui. That has Hurley sliding and leaves Port with Hurley vs Hartlett. I love Hartlett but I'd take Hurley every day of the week and twice on sundays. That has Hartlett at pick 5. Not at all out of the realms of possibility that we have pick 5 either considering our form in recent weeks and the draw that lies ahead of us. Port often throw curveballs come draft day too so who knows?

My wish is to either miraculously snare Hurley or take Hartlett/Sidebottom (the baddest badass that ever entered a draft).

One of those with our first rounder and I'll be stoked

Just on Naita too it's a tough one. He has all the gifts there and if he develops into the player everyone knows he could be then he'll leave a few clubs red faced should he not be taken at #1. Problem there is the boom/bust factor is massive. If the planets were for some reason to fall into alignment and we were to snare him how DO we feel?

I'd personally be stoked because I reckon our club could give him what he needs to be that freak of nature but I'm just not sure.

Thanks CC. Only saw him in the champs but he looked like a player who has tons of speed, nous, and a very nice kick. He also ran the lines and carried the ball, both very quickly.A bit Dangerfield like?

Have been doing plenty of research on all the kids this year, but just very quickly I think we need to inject MORE PACE into the guts and the best player for that IMO is Hartlett. Local boy, stacks of talent, incredible pack crashing abilities for a small, very strong, keeps feet often, incredible recovery speed and a massive motor. Real worker. Terrific player. I'd like Ziebiell (sp) but I don't rate his pace enough, tho he is pretty dakmn classy and a very strong overhead mark. Both could be gone by our pick.

Hurley if available with our first pick (I wish) should be gobbled up. He is the best player in the draft IMO. His versatility, size and strength are just far too good to toss up. Pavlich like. Also a massive fan of McKernan for his sticky hands, boy can he grab a football.

We shouldn't try and go local if we can help it, just get the best available with the first pick be it a mid or a tall.

But I do think we need more speed through the centre and boy would I like to get Chris Hall (tho pretty sure he is still avail for next year)
