Are you referring to the game where he came on as a sub in the fourth quarter and had immediate impact with seven touches and a goal against Port, a solid game against North in which he injured himself or the games against the Lions and someone else (can't remember who off the top of my head) who he was returning against after ten weeks out?

So round 1 & 2 last year he was ok, then clearly wasn't up to it after the injury. Just saying that he had minimal impact last year unlike Krakouer who was our best small forward.

People on here carry on like he's a super star, he's played 30 games of AFL footy, kicked 21 goals and in his 7th season at the club/Level......he is average at best and we have plenty of better younger blokes coming through.

Any love for Marty getting his wish to split his time in midfield and forward ? He could almost have a job share arrangement with Sidey.

We do have some other options in the back half and personally I think he could be more effective forward anyway

I think Yagmoor would be a great fit up forward. He is a fantastic contested player and that is one thing we really miss with Macaffer sidelined. I think his kicking skills in addition to Fasolo, Sidebottom and Didak could be really damaging around the 50. He also has the defensive and tackling ability to fit into the structure. I'm not sure what he is like for leg speed but outside of Mooney we don't have too much of that in our forward options anyway.

Thanks Ed. I doubt he will be considered for a while yet considering his limited preseason. But does anyone else think J.Thomas has got what it takes to fill a role in our side this year?

It might be handy if he actually debuted before anyone even speculated about how what where he plays. Who knows..... he has been on the list since god knows and been injured for the majority of the time. Like most on here thats all anyone would know about him.

Are you basing this on his WB GWS game or youtube highlights?

What's everyone's feeling about Didak? What are his chances of returning to 2010 form (41 goals)?

My forward line:

Blair, Dawes, Fasolo
Didak, Trav, Beams

Sidey, Swan, Pendles, Daisy, Jolly are all capable of kicking 20+ goals as mids. Don't count out Wellingham or Ball, either. Then you have the young guys pushing for selection, who I admittedly know nothing about.

One a little from left field for me might be Wellingham, if Beams and Sidey push up into the midfield, we could play Sharrod as an almost permanent small forward.

While I think we need Sharrod's pace in the midfield, this is a serviceable idea as we are lacking a fast forward pocket who can put tackling pressure on. He also showed he can kick a few when he drifts forward during the final against West Coast.

The trouble with a lot of the choices in this thread is that none of them have shown 'crumbing' skills. It's that rare ability to read the ball off the packs. Krak had it in spades. His 30 goals for the year will be hard to replace, particularly when that was more goals than one of our key forwards.

Didn't see the NAB CUP last week, but read several posts about how good Marley Williams was. Does he have the potential to play as a small forward? I believe he is currently a rookie. Any chance for an elevation?

Marley Williams certainly has the ability to play as a small forward. Needs to build endurance before he is considered for elevation. Looked good in the NAB but had to go to the interchange a number of times for a breather even in these short games, so in full games would really struggle.

Williams would make for a curious sub option who could come in for a quarter and perhaps kick a goal, but he is still a good year away from playing senior footy.

This year will be a development year and will probably mostly play off a forward flank or pocket as Alex Fasolo did last year. Will be some time away from being able to push further up the field but hopefully in a year or two he should be able to push up the ground more in a Paul Chapman type role.
