Analysis Our forward line - KPF depth?

I think Daniher leading up from half forward, Winderlich and Chappy leading up from inside 50 and Carlisle deep was the plan, with a resting ruck and small forward buzzing around them all.

Lets not forget that Hibberd and Dempsey running off half back as well as Hurley helping set up play through there is important to break the game open and allow for quick entries that create chaos for opposition defenders and smart players like Winderlich and Chappy can take advantage as well as Carlisle getting more one v one deep.

Obviously Dempsey will struggle to be up for round 1, but Hibberd should be there and if he's not there will be a plan to cover the loss of their run, when there clearly wasn't today.

The other thing that run from half back does is force midfielders to help cover it, which in turn will see one of Zaka, Heppell, Watson or Stanton free.

I think our full strength forward line will do alright but I think we will rarely ever see it. Hoping for Winderlich and Chapman to both be fit for extended periods of the year is wishful at best. Carlisle and Daniher will be solid but probably not much more than that and will probably drift in and out of games. Not even sure who completes the forward 50 after that. Personally I'd like Zac Merrett or Kommer to be in there and probably Hardingham just to have an extra marking forward target.

I reckon Goddard would be good in the forward line taking the 3rd tall (Hardingham/Steinberg) spot but I doubt they will do it. Also I think our forward line is going to absolutely suck if we get a few injuries to key players. Even at full strength its not that strong. It could be a long year if we can't find reliable avenue's to score.

Can lead. Can kick goals. Has concrete hands and feet. Never seen a big man jump so low. Couldn't out mark his shadow if he tried. Has been injured 4 out of the 7 years with us. Please take him.
Well we do need a new permanent member for the injury list now Gumby has gone west...

Leading and movement in the forward line is an undoubted issue, but the way we move the ball is a BIGGER issue. We are kicking too much, often to wings and flanks. The next line of the opposition defence finds it easier to move up a line and then stymie our ball movement. We need more hands when moving the ball to allow for quicker ball movement.

aaron black instead?

In physical terms Ambrose is Black/Tarrant juiced up. Seriously, he's about 20 kgs heavier than Rayner, the strongest guy at our club, 6'4 and only just gets done by the national 800m champion in a 3km time trial.

Whatever reasoning was behind him not getting pre-season games behind Steinberg and Hardingham was deeply, deeply flawed and hints at complete denial on the part of the coaching staff (heard nothing to suggest that Ambrose didn't put in over the pre-season).

Don't care who was working hard. They were known quantities and they are not good enough or physically capable of playing the roles required in the forward line.

I'm yet to watch the match against the Tigers (and Ambrose may well have stunk) but we've lost the opportunity to develop chemistry between the types of guys are capable of addressing our forwardline woes.

Fletcher to the Forward line? any one
Leave Hurley down back to settle, with hooker and pears, to establish our back line
if castle doesn't play put Fletcher up forward, he played a few games up forward with sheedy back in the day and always kicked a few goals.
nothing to do with his age, he is still rather fit and agile for a man his size, out on a lead he is quick and would be almost impossible to stop & his long arms would be a huge advantage due to the full back not allowed to chop at the arms any more. Who do you match up on him a small player that could go with him to cover the ground, or a tall player to match him in the air but will be out paced trying to cover some ground. as well being a brilliant player of reading the play,

We should be able to get enough goals out of Daniher/Carlisle (they have contributed in PS), but by all reports we were at sea when Carlisle missed the Port match. Injuries/suspensions to either one and we are stuffed.
