Our forward line

But the roles help make the quality and we haven't played them in those roles yet. (except for a couple of games where Ivvy and Big O played - and we didn't lose one of them .......:D

Hale is very underrated as a CHF... And roughead plays ruck as good as he plays forward. You can't polish a turd....

Morro, if they can do that, we are on a real winner, seriously. He can take a grab and is a great athlete. How do you know they are working on that aspect of his game BTW?

I bagged him at Carlton as they played him as a forward and he could not kick straight, like Waite and Thornton and the irish guy, none of whom could kick straight!

Make no mistake, if we can get him to kick at 60% (a big ask), he will be a weapon.

I believe he spoke about the plans and ideas we had for fixing his kicking and marking woes in his welcome interview I think it was.

Hampson , Vickery and Maric should all play IMO . Jack is the closet we have to a KPF who can only play key position and I think he will be he best when playing as our 3rd tall forward . The remainder should and I believe will be filled with rotating mids whether that be inside or outside types. Having multiple players able to go forward to kick goals, go through the midfield or play off half back would be a massive asset . All players 190 or under should have this ability .

4 players from the above mentioned will not be with the club in 2015 - My Guess would be King,Newman,A.Edwards,C.Knights

Knights is contracted for 2015.
I can't see all of Astbury, Elton and Griff being here next year. One will leave, at least, you'd think.
Also think Batchelor will likely move on for his own good.

But of course we all hope everyone becomes a superstar.

The lack of love for Azza is astonishing. Added more bite to our forward line than Jack in the second half of last year and now l see blokes like Arnot/Astbury/Banfield edging him out, even Knights. Crazy shit.

Straight in. Ditto King for reasons only a few have mentioned... a work ethic, an ability to put the team first and... really the only player that makes things happen (his bizarre unpredicability is actually an asset).

* this is all subject to Azza having a pre-season that does not involve nightclubs, pissing on people/walls/casino tables, etc, etc.

The risk with Azza, which was the same as Lukey, is that he'll have a good couple of games, and then just fade out.
With Kingy, he can have the odd quiet game, but overall he is quite consistent.

Yep that surprised me too... Did miss 6 home and away games. Which is about how many games Maric should have missed last season. But we flogged him.
Most teams tried to sub a tall mid way through the third quarter. Geelong had Blicavs and Vardy until injury hit. Hampson Kruezer, then Warnock, Kruezer; Mumford/Pyke, pies tended to bench Lynch, Freo tended to sub a tall even though that went **** up in the final. Nicholson/Lycett got the vest most games and of course Orrenson got subbed for us in the few games he played.

It certainly might be the best position for Jack but not for the team. Jack sucking up 80% of fwd 50 entries for 80 odd goals would mean imo a net loss for overall goals for the team.

I agree.

Having Jack parked in the goal square and kicking the ball to him are different things, though.

I really don't see the benefit in moving our one true A+ goal scorer further away from goal. It is cutting off our nose to spite our face. I'm all for unpredictability in forward structure, and I'm happy to see Jack playing CHF, but he has no influence on the game when he is up on the wing.

I think we under-rate both Azza and C. Knights.

For me its

A Edwards, Riewoldt, C Knights
S Edwards, Vickery, (resting mid)

King on the bench, and Hampson rotating through with Vickery. Lennon and McDonough to be breathing down Kings neck for that spot. Good balance here and will not be smashed on the rebound as we would with the OPs suggested fwd line.

Only worry is Hampson as i don't rate him as a fwd - the only team he played well against in the fwd line was us. However if we can isolate him on a smaller player in the goal square when he's resting up front me thinks we will be ok.

No influence? As long as he doesnt find himself in the back half, or in congested situations, he has a significant influence even if outside the 50. His kicking to advantage of players is very good.

Jack's kicking to the advantage of other players is indeed very good. But you can't kick it if you don't have it, and he just doesn't find it outside 50 very much.

I'm happy to be proven wrong. Can anyone point me towards a game where Jack got more than a handful of possessions outside 50?

Maybe it's just that my most recent memory of Jack playing up the ground was during the EF, and yes, his lack of influence on that game was complete.

Tell Knights and A Edwards you both have a chance here and to prove their spot in preseason games.

I do agree with you regarding our 3 talls and just hope that all show a bit this years and will make it difficult to let them go and if so we can get a reasonable trade - If possible

Batchelor is a really strange 1, Looked great in his 1st year but has a fair bit of competition for his spot - Again dont want him to leave yet and hope he takes his game to another level this year with the new vfl team giving these players consistency in set positions

I see you your Hale/Roughead with my Hampson/Vickery

Welcome to the RFCBF WALDENOND, always good to have more Tiger heads :thumbsu:

Hey WATIGE , thanks for all the great graphs, tables, charts and whatever else. If you aren't already, your definitely my nomination for the RFC BF official presenter of data. (based strictly on your choice of what to present or not, of course).:thumbsu:

I don't see TVs role changing too much. I'm all for Hampson playing the occasionally game whilst Maric is rested. I just think we could have got a much cheaper back up.

Yep we all have had our say on this and there is no point rehashing it over again.

All for more run essentially.

Yes but don't forget CHF is not played like yesteryear with them only kicking 30 goal a year. I still think he can kick 50 a year playing this role.

I would guess it was because his role was more of a ff not chf. He would always try to be in the fwd 50 so trying to compare stats aint fair.
