Perrie is the worst "forward" in the competition. I see more impressive players in the mini-league.

It is an indictment on the club that we haven't been able to find a key forward to replace Sarge. Has it been about six seasons? As much as I admire his workrate and the fact that he has put together a 100 game AFL career with minimal natural-ability, surely he should have been overtaken by now.

But you look through our list and, again, he will have to play a key role in 2007.

Does the names Angwin and Watts ring a bell??

Losing Angwin in particular setus back then Watts came along as Angwins replacement and B4 you know it 6 seasons have passed ;)

And Josh Krueger but thats a very good point.

All our eggs in two baskets?

Six years, six drafts, six trade periods and six years of training/preseasons to develop our KPP's... and Sarge will be our CHF in 2007.

Perrie might go ok if he avoids injury. He was rubbish for North apart from that famous day at the Bay but he can't handle the tough physical style of the SANFL, he doesnt need to take contested marks in the AFL so i think he might have a decent year.

Gill is a far better player though in my opinion.

Can you give me a bit more of a background on Gill, I dotn know alot of about him????

Perrie in my eyes and it was clear on PF day last year that he is simply not upto it, but due to Hentschels injury and the not having any proven forwards on the list we have to make the best of what we have got.

I really hope Burton plays FF or CFH drifting into the middle of the forward area this year, leave the wings to Mattner and Reilly.

My forwardline set up would be:

Welsh Riccuito Bock

McGregor Burton Bode

Think someone like Bode really offers the crumbing forward option we really need, Welsh is a good crumbing forward but we need another just to pick up what others, well are more than likely to drop.

The unfortunate thing is it really is a make shift forwardline and if we cop and injury we are either going to have to look at a Stellar or Tippet maybe even Maric to have a go or throw the structure to the wind and just hit and hope.

Well apparently Gill will start off with North next season unless something dramatic occurs. He is an athletic, high leaping superstar with fantastic hands and the ability to stuff up the easy things yet do the impossible, he has improved his kicking quite a bit though. At the moment his fitness is a bit behind the other lads due to his injuries last season, not sure if he had surgery or not, but hes working hard to catch up.
The Crows could do with a big strong key position player though, Gill sort of plays as a floater at North without really having a set position.

Hopefully Welsh can get fit and firing, same with Kenny. Bock could be the key figure next season, if we can get some lads up forward kicking goals regularly we should go top 4 again.

Thanks for that:thumbsu:

Dont forget we recruited Carey.

I sometimes think he actually held Perrie back in some ways

Agreed. The media has often highlighted that Perrie kicked on after Carey, as though Wayne was a great mentor.

That may have been the case, but Pez was useless when Carey was on the park at the same time.

Maturing as a player probably would have happened for Perrie regardless of Carey's involvement.

I always felt Perrie was dwarfed by ''the King'' and didnt do the things he should have done out of respect/fear

I like a player to do what he thinks is best and not second guess the big banana. Love seeing the young kids push past Roo to get the ball ( as long as they are our young kids :o )

I think the problem with a forward is that you have to rely on the midfielders passing the ball to them. When Carey was in our line up, he would lead to the pocket to free up the middle and there were better options available in the middle but, I still remember the midfielders kicking the ball to Carey and ignoring the other options

Don't make excuses for the Pez or whatever he's called. He's simply no good.

I'm not a Perrie fan, but that's unfair IMO Drummond.

He came of age in 2005 when he averaged 13-14 possessions per game and kicked 39.31, playing mainly across HF. He had a very good year in 2005.

He also started 2006 in similar fashion but he got injured in round 4, and re-appeared in round 21, when he played an excellent first up game.

Naturally he got found out in the finals because he had no base to work from after missing nearly all year.

He's no star, he's a workhorse, but he doesn't deserve to be titled "simply no good".

Nail....etc........:thumbsu:

The Dispenser played Round 1, 2, 3, 4

then Rounds 21 and 22 as preparation for the finals....

it's hardly fair to judge his season from any aspect based on those figures

Spot on and it will take some Neil Craig genius to take the flair and enigmatic talents of Burton, Bode and Welsh, combine them with the likes of midfielder/forwards Ricciuto and Thompson and blend in with the KPP's of no fixed address, McGregor and Bock, to regularly kick a winning score.

Talent to burn but hardly the bankable Lynch-Brown structure around which premiership teams can be built. Get the mix right through and it would be an extremely difficult forward line to defend as the match ups don't suit a number of teams' defences (known as the Shanahan-effect).

What about his other seasons in the AFL? Can I judge those?

absolutely - but I think the point Macca23 was making was that after having a less than super start to his career.......he then had to contend with Carey being in the same forward line which seemed to set him back.......then he had a great 2005.......but unfortunately an interrupted 2006.

So while I don't think anyone is saying Pez is a Jonathon Brown in the making........and will probably always be in the "workhorse" catagory......his developent curve has been positive.....and probably not deserving of comparison with Mini Leaguers.

:)

F Welsh Riccuito Bode
HF Burton Bock Thompson

Perrie is a fringe player, no doubt about it in my mind. I won't even debate it. Welsh will play Round 1, but he'll have a lot of players on his tail very soon IMO, (Gill, Tippett, Maric & Meesen). McGregor will/should play in the backlines, going on his last two seasons and what he has said in the media. I expect him to put pressure on Stevens to retain his spot. Roo may rotate through the midfield but will predominantly be a leading forward, but this will put further pressure on Welsh's efforts to stay in the top 22. Bode and Burton are the only real certainties IMO. Burton kicks way too many wild, unlikely goals at CHF and loses a lot of scoring potency on the wing. Bode is our only true crumbing forward. Bock must play CHF. As I've repeated many times I think he is the perfect replacement for Hentschel and will have a gun season. Our backline is already well stocked in 2007 without him.
