As I travel around far North Queensland, amazingly, I have found the imagery of the Hawks have not been far away when visiting some popular watering holes.

In Townsville, right in the middle of the NQ Cowboys NRL stronghold, I came across an AFL lounge at the Allen Hotel where club guernsies have been framed and hang on the walls. The lounge is very well patronized for viewing Fox AFL games live and, as well, for replays as the channel is left on throughout the hotel’s trading hours. And believe it or not it is the Hawks guernsey which has pride of place, see pic below.

Today, Easter Monday, I found myself in Port Douglas, playground of the rich and famous and a majority (of the likes of me) who are not. Feeling thirsty, I popped into the ancient Courthouse Hotel. Low and behold a Fox replay of the Cats v Hawks game was on the big screen in the sports bar. So Gary had no option but to have more than one XXXX which was the original intention.

When the replay concluded I strolled up the main street. I came to the Central Hotel, another very old one. Before my eyes was another AFL footy lounge and I noticed the Pies were thrashing the Kangaroos who, by-the-way, were unfortunately playing with only sixteen on the field, if you get my drift without mentioning any names of former Hawks ;) . And guess what! This pub also had a display of autographed AFL jumpers. As you can see, Crawf, Hodgie and Luke McCabe had been there some time - see pic. And guess which Guernsey holds centre stage? Just look at the pic. The Central Hotel is a major sponsor of the Port Douglas Crocodiles Football Club in the Cairns district comp. Believe it or not, the Aussie rules comps in both Townsville and Cairns districts are two of the oldest in Australia.

Enjoy the pics -

A couple of Swan’s fans watch in envy as they watch the Hawks thrash the Cats.

Yes, Rusty, terible stuff, I'm cutting it down to 12 schooners in future, with the exception when our Hawks win, then I'll finish off with celebratory Crown Lager or 2 or more if they thrash teams like they did Saturday.

Cheers, mate.
