Yeah, that's what he's saying! The mature blokes we brought in complemented all the kids we drafted.
Full forward, flanker, inside mid, forward flank, back flank, flanker.

Not much to get excited about.

Trengove was always going to need to take a huge step up for us this year for us to be anywhere near competitive in the middle, we needed numbers.

Houli would be terrible for us. If people think Jack Watts is soft, this guy blows him out of the water. I remember a game last year where he had the ball in the back pocket and got a bit flustered and fairly well sat down on the ground and waited to be pinged for holding the ball. I wish it was on YouTube, it was hilarious.
Was there. Dreamtime IIRC, lost the Tigers the game. Think it was 2011 or 10 though.

Could have been, everything blurs together after a while. If he'd kicked the ball 20 rows deep into the crowd he could've at least made the angle a bit tighter. Glad he doesn't play for us.

Toumpas and Kent were drafted to, eventually, play midfield. Easy to call them flankers to suit your angle. In the draft itself we took 4 midfielders. Rodan and Byrnes, to a lesser extent, were brought in to play some midfield and some forward flank. We got Evans back off the long term injury list and promoted him to the senior list. That's 7 midfielders in my book.

We harp on about Pedersen, Dawes, Gillies etc but it's clear that we also nabbed some midfielders as well. Some of them may not make a huge impact yet or be able to play full games in the middle but it's not as if it was over looked.

Edit - And there wasn't alot of quality mids on the market anyway. Caddy and Wellingham didn't want to come here and, outside of that, there wasn't a great deal on offer. We addressed it as best we could.

When I sa flanker, I meant wingman. My bad.

Surprised Jason Pongracic got passed over in the draft last year. He seems like someone that Melbourne could use right now. I suppose hindsight is hindsight and it won't do any good now. But if attracting a big name midfielder is impossible, he'd be a good pickup that would give you instant results in 2014.

Not so sure about that. I believe the same stuff was going on here 2 rounds in to the 2008 season after we got smashed by Hawthorn and the Dogs, although admittedly many of you weren't here for that and the activity on the board wasn't as high.

I remember attending those two games and thinking it's ok we'll be better in 3 years, just got to stick it out, here we are still sticking it out, gotta love this club ;)

Brocks problems were mainly injury related here and when he got to Carlton

He played a lot of VFL footy at Carlton. Probably something to do with the whole problem of getting the ball in traffic and slowly jogging forward in a straight line until someone tackled him, or punting it long (if we're lucky) to a contest. He's playing better footy now and I think we'd be kidding ourselves to say it was all injury related. We've been discussing the development / coaching (lack thereof) before so won't get back into it here.

Of all the teams in the competition, ours are the worst in traffic / under pressure. Only Nathan Jones seems to have a bit of composure with the ball when in tight (and Viney will hopefully be in the same category), maybe Grimes as well. Just about everyone else hot cakes it around.
