We all have those things we ... do. Those little habits that we do subconsciously or not. Idiosyncrasy's (hope I spelt that right).

Mine would have to be when I'm drink coke from a can, or anything for that matter, and I flick the side of it. My brother used to do it all the time and somehow it is now instilled in me. Friends of mine always point it out (which kinda ****es me off) and it is definately my biggest idiosyncrasy, considering I drink out of cans a lot.

Anyway, what are your little idiosyncrasy's?

I have MANY, more than anyone else in the world.

Here's a sample :
- I chew my moustache.
- I click the bones in my wrists continually, both wrists at once, two motions each; in, out.
- I maniacally unblock my ears continually by clenching my jaw and breathing out just nostril suddenly.
- I continually rub my nose (its always itchy).
- I continually pull up my socks so much that I tear about two pairs per week.
- Whenever browsing on a computer using Explore, I always have close an unused path, working backwords methodically parent folder by parent folder, before commencing to open the new path.
- I always keep patting my hair down (I have bob Down Syndrome).
- Whenever I buy a packet of smokes I have to remove the plastic wrapper, and the topfoil very, very quickly and very, very neatly, always aiming to have it all ready to put in the first bin I come across.
- I eat crinkle-cut crisps one corrugation at a time.
- When, as a pedestrian, I overtake another pedestrian, I pull out early and do a headcheck before pulling back in, as if I'm driving.

There's more.

Your wife is an incredible woman.

I would have killed you long ago. :D

I CANNOT sit still. Never. Even if I'm sitting still I tap my fingers or my feet. I don't know what it is, I'm not really a nervous person it's more just unused energy I think. :p

In terms of my speaking idiosyncrasies:

- I use the words: yeah, yep and ok far too often
- When someone asks how I'm going I'll 95% of the time say "Oh yeah, alright, pretty good, not too bad, thanks for asking" in rapid succession or something very similar, despite my attempts not to.
- When someone asks my name for some reason, I'm seemingly always unable to clearly say my three letter name without a brief pause and a lightly audible 'ah' at the beginning. So whenever someone asks my name, instead of saying 'Ben' it's come out ' ... ah Ben'. I've had people think my name is Sven, Ahmed, Abdul in the past when really it's just a case of me often being unable to pronounce B-e-n clearly. And here I am now teaching kids my own butchered version of English. :p

As for physical idiosyncrasies, I have many, I really am an odd person a lot of the time. :)

-Apparently when I'm talking excitedly, my mouth keeps moving after I've finished talking.
-I get embarrassed calling people their name and instead use mate, you, etc.
-I always seem to have my eyes closed for long periods of time when I'm talking to someone.
-I can only use phones when I can see the other person on the end of the phone or I know who is going to answer.

- rarely call people by their proper name unless their name happens to be knackers, dipshit, numpty, ballbags, etc.
- when sitting down I usually tap my feet as if drumming for Napalm Death, and people complain that I'm shaking the seat/table
- I drink a lot and sometimes don't know when to stop :p
- when people ask how old I am, or ask my phone number, I have to stop and think about it to remember
- at the footy I stack my new beer cups into my old ones

Ditto with those.

I consider my behavior to be not only perfectly normal, but the absolute standard for humanity. But a few other things that other people think I do weird are:

Wear socks once, and throw them away. A friend of mine talked me into trying to wash them ONCE. It's not working out. Socks & Condoms. Single use only.

I'm so non-PC that my quarterly work evalutaion permanently contains the word 'irreverent.'

Rapt about Australian Rules Football.

Analogies frequently related to military science/history.

I think Scully from the X-Files is freakin' hot.

I end most correspondence with 'Peace'

Peace,

- I cannot sit on a chair without swinging on it, ie I'm always sitting on the edge with the back legs in the air. Always. It's compulsive, and no matter how many times I get told to sit properly, I still do it.

- I fiddle with everything, cause I can't sit still, and I tap on stuff too

- (According to my friends), if I don't hear what someone said, when I ask them to repeat it my mouth moves to replicate what they are saying. (I never catch myself doing it, but apparently I do it all the time.)

- Everytime someone asks me something, I say "what?" even though I heard them! :D Then when they are halfway through repeating it, I'll stop them and answer when they are about two words in. (I think I have trouble paying attention. ;))

- Singing. To everything. Dunno about idiosyncracy, but certainly a compulsive habit! :D

are u for real? lol how much do u spend on socks a year?????

The closer the friend, the less I refer to them by their name - usually mate, dude, hey etc. I hate friends addressing me by my name, it sounds so formal and serious.

I use full grammar, spelling and punctuation when SMSing.

I always maximise any computer window I'm using.

I drum constantly.

I like to have my TV volume on rounded numbers. 10, 15 etc.

I politely point out when people use apostrophes incorrectly, such as the title of this thread, the word is plural, not possessive and should be Idiosyncrasies.

I idly pull up grass if I am sitting on it.

I feel incomplete if I don't have a pie, Coke and Chezza at the football.

I shut car doors by pushing the window because I hate electric shocks.

I do that too. It's like, my brain is two slow for general conversation - it takes a few seconds for me to put together the sounds I just heard to know what was said. I've tried to stop doing that now, because it annoys people - I think about what I think I heard before I ask them to repeat it, but it's not so good to do that when I'm talking to friends with speech or language problems, because they think I'm just pretending I heard what they were saying because of my slow reaction...

Other idiosyncracies (sp?):

I use ellipses in writing, when they have no business being there.

I come across as a very nervous person, which I'm not really. I have a lot of nervous habits - tapping, twisting things - my hands or whatever are in them, ripping wrappers, pulling at my hair, clicking pens and, if they don't click, tapping them or pulling their lids on and off. I chew on things, trace patterns with my fingers, write on things, make the most elaborate scribbles during lectures, pace while I'm on the phone, and I don't stop when I go to bed - I find that I don't keep still when I'm trying to sleep either, it really is awful.

When I actually am nervous or feeling uncomfortable, I sit with my elbow on a surface, and the bottom of my palm firmly over my mouth.

When I'm describing a phone conversation, I always put my thumb and finger up to my mouth and ear. When I want to sing a few lines to someone so that they know what song I'm talking about, I always put my thumb up to my face like a microphone.

Things "walk" in my house, and it's always me who walks them, with absolutely no memory of doing it. Coathangers seem to be my favourite. They'll be somewhere sensible, and suddenly they'll be on the floor in front of me. I have gotten up to put the same coathanger away 3 times in 20 minutes in the past.

When I'm writing something like this, or an email, I regularly get up and walk around the house a couple of times in order to think. It seems that my thoughts are powered my movement.

If I'm wearing nail polish, I chew it off. If I'm wearing lipstick, I bite it off.

I constantly highlight the text I'm reading on the computer screen - in fact, I'm constantly double clicking - highlighting, unhighlighting, highlighting, unhightlighting.

Funnily enough, I don't bite my nails! I think I'll stop there; I've just proved that I'm completely insane.

Like someone else said, I always use correct grammar and punctuation when I send an SMS. I'm just so pedantic.

I always sing. If I'm in the middle of a conversation, and music is played, I start singing. It's a recent habit as well.

I don't but my nails. I do pick at them and peel them off myself. Been doing this for a long, long time.

I buy things, DVD's, videos, cd's for no particular reason. I just feel that if I'm in a shop, have the money, I have to buy something.

I hardly refer to people by their names. Usually say mate for blokes or hun for girls. I'm pretty shocking with names.

I always leave things to the very last moment. No matter what it is.

I go nuts if I don't have a clean pair of boxers. I actually where two pairs a day. I need to feel clean.

Contrary to that, I only ever shave when I absolutely have to.

The Hitman

P.S. My idiosyncrasy? I have polarised opinions and feelings. ;)

Okay, so I'm not the only one who does that. :) Now I feel better.

Arghh, I do these too. I click everything all the time - drives people around me (if there is anyone) insane! And that making the motions thing - I do that too - if I'm describing something to someone, I'll gesture about as if I was still in the room I was in when it happened - like point in the direction the door would be if I was in that room, when talking about the door, or things like that. Must look pretty stupid :p

well if it makes sense with 'is' instead of a 's in it then thats what u use.

ie
our idosyncrasie's doesnt make sense cos that means you're really saying, our idosyncrasy is

but if you say 'it's ours' then that makes sense bcos its shortened 'it is ours'

hehe i rarely use any grammer, that clears things up!

I cross my middle finger over my index finger and my ring finger over my pinkie finger continually .. especially on my right hand, but sometimes on my left as well.

I find it comfortable when standing to have my left arm behind my back with my left holding my right elbow.. sometimes I put both hands behind my back and cross em, but it not quite as comfortable.. I dont know anyone who puts an arm behind there back and holds the other arm.
