Probably not enough attention given to our interstate record since Hird & co have taken over.

We've gone from the worst travelling side in recent years to a somewhat decent one. Yes we played GWS & Gold Coast interstate, but going on how bad we travelled from 2002 - 2010,
I still think it's worth noting. Our first win at AAMI against Port in 12 years and the win against Fremantle a few weeks are not wins I'd have tipped at the start of the year. What have we done differently this year that we haven't done in the last decade?

7 wins from 41 games under Sheedy & Knights from 2002 - 2010 is abhorrent.

Matthew Knights - 2008 - 2010
Played: 13
Won: 2
Lost: 11

Kevin Sheedy - 2002 - 2007
Played: 28
Won: 5
Lost: 23

James Hird - 2011 -
Played: 9
Won: 6
Lost: 3

I've been really pleased with this aspect this year. The win against Freo was huge for us. It's great to see that we now finally have the confidence to have a real crack when we play interstate now. Mind you we haven't played the 2 hardest road trips this year. WC at Subi/Adelaide at AAMI. Luckily we don't play WC at Subi, Adelaide should be a good challenge for us though, but regardless of the result we have definitely improved our interstate performances.

The fact we went over to Adelaide with a fairly depleted outfit and still won by 50 points will hold us in good stead in a few weeks time (when we will have players back) to play the Crows.

Not saying we'll win, it will be tough, but the confidence out of beating them over there last year & thrashing Port in the end this year will be a confidence booster.

The dreaded travel curse looks to have lost it's hold & it's most refreshing to see a looming interstate fixture & look forward to it.

Completely misleading

Sydney, West Coast, Port, Sydney and somewhat adelaide have all been top 8/top 4 over the last 10 years and there was no GWS or GC last year. I dont think you can really take our intertate record seriously, yet.

We would have lost the games to Adelaide and Freo in recent years. Probably the Port one as well.

Even with that context, what it will do for the confidence and the mindset will have untold value.

We nearly beat Sydney, too. And were decent against WC
The Freo '11 performance was probably on par with the WC one when all was said and done, but I stand by my thought that if Lower had been properly penalised for not giving the ball back to Paddy, we might have run them a bit closer. That killed the momentum stone dead.

Think we will defeat Adelaide - They will fall off the cliff.
Yeah, I've been quietly confident about this game for a little while now. Just think that Adelaide's draw has overrated them a little. They have had some good wins this year but struggled against the good sides (Hawthorn and Collingwood).

We've beaten Port, GWS and GC. Freo had quite a few key players out, certainly weakest Freo team we've played in a while. Although there were signs last year that we were improving. The Crows comeback win would not have happened in the past.

Have been saying for years, fixing our interstate record would be priority No.1. The embarassment in previous years had become laughable, cringeworthy rubbish. Absolutely rapt at how we have travelled, the freo one the standout.

I personally don't think we will beat Adelaide, but it's fair to say that both Adelaide and Essendon have a tough two weeks between now and then. We have Geelong and Hawthorn, while they have West Coast at home and then Geelong in Geelong. We will have a much clearer perspective on our chances against the Crows at the end of Round 18.
