700k x 5 years for Dale Thomas???

That is crazy. Locking anyone in for 5 years is pure madness. An example of such madness was locking Waite into his 4 or 5 year contract. He has been on a long contract and has played one game in 4 since and been less than useful in half of those matches anyway.

Thomas is good- but not that good.

C4 said that we were offering 625k for fourth years which is a lot better offer. We won't get Thomas if he doesn't pass the medical anyway.

Maric is workhorse. They'll need a better ruck to contend. Don't buy the Richmond and Port hype. Carlton were also up there two years ago with a lot of young talent.
That may be the case but Robbie does not really represent an significant upgrade on Maric...certainly not a Dusty sized one. Maric has been pretty good

Waite was only given a 3 year contract. Judd is the only player on our list who has been the beneficiary of a long term contract.

Maric is good but he needs a chop out. Richmond have been stung several times in the last two years with Maric been unable to play well due to fatigue

Robbo isn't a dickhead. If anything, he would be the most approachable Carlton player and maybe even AFL player. He loves his fans and doesn't take where he's at for granted.

Robbo and Martin are polar opposites
Respect for Robbo skyrocketed when he was the only player to walk over to Jamison after his unfortunate injury.

Best thing about Eddie's situation for us it that it works out for us either way.

That's right.

I'd like Eddie to stay, I've made that very clear. However I wouldn't begrudge him for taking the large offer presented to him by another club.

The only way we can be seen to 'lose' in this situation is if we cave to Eddie's demands, and I can't see that happening.

It seems like 4 years-6 years to me though !!

Carlton has a habit of giving long term contracts to players that haven't produced.

Giving Waite a 3 year contract for what? - one 3rd placing in the b&f and numerous back injuries ? Odd decision.

Giving a long contract to Judd makes sense - the guy had won a best and fairest, guided West Coast to a premiership and also won a Brownlow, MVP etc kicked 5 goals from the midfield vs Brisbane. What had Waite produced that warranted him getting 3 year contract on well over 400 k?

Waite has been the winner in that negotiation - not Carlton.

Pretty sure it was a three year deal for Waite, and he's playing good footy at the end of the second year...not the worst outcome.

Maric is a Darren Jolly. Big hearted trier. Warnock and Kreuzer outworked Maric and Vickery on three good legs.

Warnock, Kreuzer and Hampson get to more taps than Maric who isn't a giant and/or a great athlete. Kreuzer isn't a centre square beast, but their tapwork and around the groundwork is more competent than a Maric.

For everyone say dusty and daisy will go to hawthorn or collingwood. Please remind urself there is a salary cap and with all their stars they wouldn't be able to pay for either! As for GWS their main priority is Buddy so we might be safe there

I'm licking my lips at the thought of having bell, robinson and martin all running through the middle. The bash trio. Gibbs, Murphy and Thomas running on the outside. Premiership midfield.

Come on blues! Get it done!

I would happily move on Betts, either Hampson or Warnock and another player on decent coin.

Please remind yourself to read your last sentence again before saying that Hawthorn wont be able to afford either or both of the aforementioned players..... just saying;)

If Carlton want to build midfield depth then the recruitment of Dale Thomas would bring in pure class with a workrate to match. Granted the ankle passes the medical he would be worth every cent & our midfielders could learn a thing or two off him about a first rate workrate, gut running & effort.

I'd be looking very very closely into Patrick Karnezis who wants to leave Brisbane as well. A mid/forward who would add depth to the midfield & can also push forward to damage on the scoreboard.

Another club to touch base with would be the West Coast Eagles in regards to the state of Andrew Gaff. He is contracted though dependant on what Micks thoughts are on Yarrans tenue at the club, could he possibly enquire into if a trade for Victorian Gaff could happen?

Id also like Carlton to have a chat to Luke Delaney from North Melbourne, is sitting behind Thompson & Grima lacking an opportunity, impressed when ive seen him play a few times. Desperately need a key defender to step in round one next season freeing up Henderson for a move forward. I think Delaney is certainly capable.

On the list management side of things I can envisage about 9 departing the list & possibly more dependant on what happens at the trade table. For now before trade departures are accounted for id have it looking like:

Delistings
Laidler
Davies
Collins
O’Keefe
Dale
Mitchell
McCarthy
Free Agent Departures
Betts
Retirement
Scotland

Just Kreuzing, they still need to pay the likes of Mitchell, roughead, hodge,Sewell, Burgoyne, etc.
These guys are not getting huge pay rises that is going to chew up all of Buddy's wage and the increase in the salary cap next year.

The only guy that will demand more money then they are currently on is Roughead.

Sewell will retire, Hodge and Mitchell will continue on a similar wage as will Burgoyne.
