Our trades so far (Hammer for 33 & Doc for 33) have been pretty good so far. I expect the Everitt trade to follow in this pattern. Come on Macca bring it home.

Laidler and a third rounder would be ideal.

I don't think we'll move on that second rounder somehow.
Agree with this. Held on to that second rounder for a fortnight stare down with Brisbane, can't see it going to the Swans for a player we would like but are not desperate for. Think we could get him in the PSD with a bit of fiddling with contract details etc

Sydney have no leverage in this at all if he wants to come to us.

Interesting he also mentioned that they didn't enter the race for J.White early on, but pulled out due to Salary Cap restraints...

I found that comment strange. I would’ve thought we should have significant TPP room. We had placed a $5M x 5 year offer for T.Cloke last year and since then we have Judd moving to a significantly reduced contract and a couple of players moving to veteran list (50% TPP discount). We signed Thomas on $625k x 4 years, so significantly less than T.Cloke, Betts has left, Docherty would be on the low side salary-wise and none of our resigning would’ve been steep. So there must be room. Maybe Andy’s worried about Bryce’s upcoming offer when he gets out of contract and is an RFA

I take it as a nice way of saying that Carlton weren't prepared to pay him as much as Collingwood wanted to pay him. Same reason we didn't sign Chapman.

They couldn't pick both Mumford & Lamb in the PSD. That threat should only work once. Anyway. I don't see Macca giving up pick 32. He will not rate Everitt higher than Doc. Don't really want to hand over any players bar Duigan or Laidler. Would be annoyed if we gave them Lucas.
Well Mumford happened before Lamb told them of his intentions. I agree with you we will not part with Pick 32. We wouldn't hold off Brisbane on that pick to simply give it away so easily.

Ideally I would love a player trade involving Laidler or Duigan. If he is destined to get to Carlton, then we can easily do it through the PSD. I'm very confident that the club wants to keep as many picks as possible.

So how are the doomsayers going to turn this around with Thomas, Docherty and Everitt wanting to come to Carlton..........but no-one wants to come to us.
I'm sure there's a way but I just can't think of one.

I really hope that Laidler can remain in the game. Can't believe that he's fallen off the radar so much.

Everitt too? Wowee... That will be the third ex first rounder we are adding to our list...

We will have more first rounders running around than GWS!

I believe Veteran list discount is $100k per player now, not 50%. We are still speculating on the Thomas contract ... might be $700k. We are a little cagey with out cap talk though. We have money when it's time to force up prices on players but don't have money when our supporters want a player the club doesn't want or we make quasi promises to a player to get them interested and then back out.

If we can finish the trade period with Thomas, Doc, Everitt, keeping our 1st, upgrading 2nd and keeping 3rd

For the loss of Betts and Hampson... we would have done very very well.

I'm basing this on the deal been done for Duigs/Laidler, pick later than 3rd or via PSD.

I feel for the guy a bit, he's still pretty young. Got drafted into a side that was just too good and then came and got injured with us. Combining all those aspects and he isn't worth a whole lot any more to any team.

How so? I think they're going to have major issues over the next 5 years. Clubs will be targeting their gun players. I'm sure interstate teams will be throwing cash at them and enticing them back to their home states as their contracts wind down. Already there has been a handful of quality players leave GWS and GC. There are already murmurings that Shiel and Treloar will move to Victoria next year. Patton and Boyd will be targeted heavily in the next 2 years and GWS won't get adequate compensation when they leave. Missing out on Buddy has also condemned them to the bottom next season as well. I just don't see a bright future for GWS over the next 5 years.
Missing out on buddy was good. Mummy and shaw combined are way better.

Even when the young guns get poached, they will get good compensation for them, they won't be free agents, clubs will have to trade for them, so there not really losing out on much. All will do is stagger their age better.

Plus there will be Plenty that want to stay. We all saw how sharply GC improved last year, over the next 2 years GWS will become competitive and 2 years after that very competitive.

5 year bet that GWS will have won a flag by 2018? Loser changes sig to whatever the other chooses... for a year?

Do you know whether that's come from Everitt or has that only come from Mckay? Not that I don't trust Mckay :p Just surprised that would come out for the first time from us and not him.
Plausible deniability IMO. Everitt has told his manager who has told us. It puts pressure on Sydney to deal with us. If it doesn't come off, then Everitt can tell the Swans he was happy with the outcome either way. Tough to be around a club when they know you didn't want to be there.

Yeh, it's a good, solid, positive off-season. Thomas and Docherty's footskills marks a definite directional shift, you'd think. Everitt I'm pretty lukewarm on. Not sure what his role may be. Third club by 24 is not great signs. But hey, if we're not coughing up much, let's see what the club has in mind for him. He was a first rounder (there must be something there) and he's got really good size.

I like the Everitt pick-up. I believe it is the kind of player that would suit Mick's plan. Can play 2nd/3rd tall back, 2nd/3rd tall forward and even up the ground.

It will give us more flexibility to change he and Hendo around to suit the situation. He is the kind of player that will allow for a Waite/Hendo combo in the forward line.

Whilst Watson is the better defender, Everitt is the more versatile and hence giving us that option to pick the team to suit the opposition. For cheap, we are making a really good decision here.

If Everitt comes to us, of course we'll all back him in.

But not sure if it's a good move.

If he plays in defence: Jamison and Watson are ahead of him, and he'd really be fighting with Mciness/White/Laidler?/Duigan for that third tall spot.

Only players with surnames beginning with T, D, and E choose to play for us. Where are the S's. I want the Swans, Selwoods, Shiels, Savages, Stakers . . .

Yes, hope we haven't got him because of his height. He is not a contested mark, averaged 16 disposal per game in his best season (15 last year), takes a running bounce per game which shows he does like to run in space on the odd occasion, mostly an uncontested player, kicks a goal every 2-3 games, never got a Brownlow vote in 78 games. Does anybody know how he goes one on one?

I'll trust the club. We won't be paying much for him and I like the fact that players want to come to us. Erases some of the ghosts of trade weeks past.

Everitt is a wingman, plays his best footy playing there
