You're going a bit hard on your own side there. You can't let go of Rocca. Buckley has one season left in him - if he wants it. Same for Burns. Wakelin is finished. Richards should be kept as you need a backup no matter how soft he is.

Collingwoods problems are the forward line. Any premiership side cannot contain 3 flaky forwards. You've got 3 in Rocca, Tarrant and Neon Leon. It's okay for the Neon Leon, cause small forwards are like that. It's okay for Rocca because on his day he can take any side apart. But to have Tarrant there as well? Maybe he ain't a forward. A top side can't have 3 players whose best and worst are so far apart.

Aside from that, Malthouse has either got to dump Lonie or play him strictly as a link player. He ain't a defender. His brother leads the uncontested possessions in the AFL, at least till he was injured, and that's what he does best.

Good season for the Pies, but there are huge problems if they don't make big changes.

Lastly, how can you possibly have 3 Clokes on your list?? Trade the hacks and keep Travis Cloke - who should take over Tarrant's position.

Ryan O'Keefe averages 19 possessions and 7 marks, and kicked 27 goals as a 57% shot on goal. That gets him All Australian selection

Chris Tarrant averages 14 possessions, 7 marks and kicked 36 goals as a 54% shot on goal. Apparently that makes him totally useless as a player, despite the fact that he's clearly our hardest working forward.

Lastly, how can you possibly have 3 Clokes on your list??

Because having Clokes on our list is easier than having guys like John Barker and Zac Dawson.

There will no doubt be a mini cleanout at seasons end. We can certainly expect Brent Hall and Tristan Walker to get the flick (if not, they have rocks in their head). There are the retirements of Blake Caracella and Chad Morrison and perhaps Shane Wakelin.

No point in trying to offload Rowe, Iaccabucci to other clubs, we wont get much for them and perhaps we could trade Lone to the Melbourne Kestrals or Melbourne Tigers - I think he is more suited to those sports.

Fanning must go, with Cam Cloke being the third ruckman. Hopefully C2 can take a leaf out of Will Minsons book and play like he does. He has the size, lets hope he got that bit of c**t in him and can get his body right.

I think Collingwood had a great season. BUT, if you consider 7th as a sign of a team that has risen, you've got to be kidding yourself. At the first real test, Collingwood got smashed by a team with heart, soul and a sack full of injuries. The first real test. Losing ain't bad, but losing like that says it all.

I agree that having Clokes on your side is easier than having guys like Dawson (Barker has now retired). I bet in years to come you'll wish you had Zac Dawson. Dawson is 20 years old, played 14 games. He's 195cm and 79kg. It's funny how people like to bag a guy that's played that many games.





Hawthorn has made the tough decisions to put together a list that clubs like Collingwood would dream about. I hope you keep Tarrant. I can promise you that having a key forward - and he is hard working - who averages 1.8 goals a season ain't the stuff of premierships. My argument was that the forward line can't contain the 3 flakes. Maybe Tarrant is better closer the midfield.

*Bet you don't have 3 Clokes in your side after the trading period. Trade... bait! If you do then I'll apologise and admit you were right and having Clokes is easy. Easy don't win finals. Can you honestly say that all 3 Clokes should take the field at the same stage in Collingwoods best 22?

We've already got one - Josh Fraser. We need an actual ruckman so that Josh can do what he's more suited to.

The basic question is this list good enough to win the flag within 3 years and the answer to that is obviously no. So how do we get better and atleast give ourselves a chance in 4 years time?. The answer to that is also obvious and that is to trade for as many top 10 picks we can get, starting NOW. Only players of quality will get us those picks so some very hard decisions have to be made now on players that still have market value(i.e: Rocca, Tarrant and even Clement). I know James Clement has been outstanding and I love what he has done for the club but what sort of player will he be in 4 years time, provided he is still playing. If we don't do something and instead sit on our hands we will be resigned to mediocrity forever.

Be interested to hear others' thoughts on Scott Burns' longevity. Have an interest in him b/c he's a Norwood guy (and I've always really admired the way he goes about his footy). I was a little surprised to hear his name listed among those who might go b/c:
a) I certainly know that he was a standout in a poor side in 2005, and
b) he seemed to have been mentioned in dispatches among your best fairly regularly in 2006.

That said, I know that if you have too many ageing midfielders who ain't that quick, something has to give, and players who might get another year or two if you had a different look to your list, are facing oblivion. What do people think are the chances he'll be booted?

ROK's principal role is to take marks on leads in the 60-90 metre arc from goal and then wheel around onto the left and bang it in quick (he's an inside 50s machine), plus he spends a surprising amount of time helping out on the HBF when we don't have the ball. Goals are a bonus from him. Whereas presumably Tarrant's role is far more 'pure' goal-kicking (as the higher number of shots on goal from a lower number of possessions would tend to indicate).
