An 89 year old record has been equalled. North have now lost 18 on the trot in a season. Their longest losing streak in a season prior to this was 1934, when the club lost all of its 18 matches. This occurred in the middle of a 35 match losing streak stretching from Round 17 1933 to Round 16 1935 -- the club's longest.
1934-35 were frustrating seasons, North losing 11 games by 15 points or less. At the other end of the scale, there were nine 60+ point defeats. Their performance brought about the resignation (not sacking) of two coaches -- Dick Taylor in 1934 and Tom Fitzmaurice in 1935 --both half way through the respective seasons -- and of course two wooden spoons. North finally saluted in Round 16 when they overcame fellow strugglers Footscray by 7 points. Amazingly the very next week they walloped third placed Carlton by 43 points.
Being a North supporter in those dark days must have been difficult.
