Coniglio doing the prayer thing before taking his shot for goal, what is it 1955?
On another note, for those rewatching games at the moment Carlton V Hawks in last years JLT is a cracker. Our forward line was looking sharp,,, for one game.

Could have meant one of those tap my forehead, chest and shoulders thing that somehow then entitles you to something not of courtesy to others.

Could be something else though.
sign of the cross? say it isn't so - enough of that "thank-you jesus" rubbish in american sport........

I've often prayed our players won't miss. And then they bloody do miss.

Geez................

One has to pray to the right god at the right time, but with so many of them, who can possibly get it right all of the time?
Can't our players just snort the lines on the ground as a soccer player once did? Probably closer to the mark anyway. :)

It's still somewhat early but looking forward to see how our midfield will operate from the get-go this year.
Given we'll have so many mids available, some will have to take up attacking and defending roles at times.

Reckon we'll be looking at a Cripps, ECurnow and Dow combination to get us going in the centre and I feel that at years end, it will still be those three that take the most centre bounces (health permitting)
I also feel that Cuningham may be our wildcard if he is to play on the wing. It just feels right to me with this new set-up. Not saying it's going to work, but the fit seems ideal should he work hard enough to give himself the first crack at things.

Kennedy can play forward at times and so can Fisher & Setterfield.
Soapy may tell me I'm wrong, but I keep seeing O'Brien on a HBF for now and maybe alternating with Williamson for that other wing spot. I understand the the game i not played where one has a sole post, but you will always have starting set-ups and when you tally up where someone starts at centre bounces, it starts to tell you a story.

Would love for Cuningham to be that winger, but if he doesn't show up then I feel SPS, Fisher, Williamson and O'Brien will be involved in a lot of those duties.

I reckon Kennedy will be in the middle as much as anyone. He's tough and helps Cripps a lot. Having the ability to rotate Cripps Kennedy Dow SPS Walsh Setterfield Curnow Fisher through the middle and not really lose much will be a major strength

I'm still very hopeful on Cunningham. Just needs a consistent run at it

That would be a terrific outcome should Kennedy start to usurp ECurnow.
I have no other reason to feel he may not other than to base his output on 2018, which wouldn't be fair to him.

Whichever way though we know that at years end Cripps will be the number one starting mid and I feel ECurnow will be #2, with Dow at #3.
I'll be very interested in who will come in at 4,5 & 6. I can guess but will likely be wrong.

I don't see a rating. I see a real eveness. That is what's really exciting about this group. There will be no rest for the opposition

The numbers weren't ratings. They were set out to show who will be involved in centre bounces.
Cripps will clearly be involved more than anyone else and probably involved in about 80% of every centre ball-ups and I see ECurnow being second and Dow third.
It's what happens after them that shall be interesting.

I see Cripps Kennedy Curnow SPS starting. Then comes Dow Fisher Walsh. IMO whoever's in we don't lose anything and I'm still hopeful on Cuningham Polson & Lang and maybe even Gibbons. I think Setterfield & Stocker will become regulars by 2nd half of the year. Murphy & LOB will play wing

SPS before Dow you reckon?
I feel Dow gives us that burst speed that may would worry his opponents, but who knows?

There are a lot of possibilities as to who may be favoured and who may yet fall out of favour.
That's what pre-seasons are for; Put forward you best efforts and get the jump on your team-mates.

I'd still have 1. Cripps 2. ECurnow 3. Dow and if Kennedy or Setterfield can dislodge Ed, then that's just fine for me also.
So much to play out.

SPS is 4th year and Dow 2nd. I rate both extremely highly. Kennedy is a gun and so underrated as is Fisher

Ed I don't see a an extractor in the middle. More a hard runner/tagger who can accumulate and do team things

Walsh will step up quickly and I can't wait to see a fit Setterfield & Stocker.

Nothing about what you’ve said is substantial.

You’ve said they lack class everywhere, which is the opposite side of the same coin. Every team has classy players and workers, you can’t have a 22 full of X-factor players, which Essendon actually have in abundance. They need more toilers.

So they’re just ‘comparably old’, which is flimsy at best. They’ve got very few players (if any) over 30 in their best 22. They’re just about at the prime age. Being especially young doesn’t make a team good. Their age profile reflects the upward trajectory they were on before the supplements scandal, when they had a good spread of developing talent. This is effectively their second push after spending a few years resetting (although not by choice).

You can not rate their players all you want, but Daniher is an All-Australian and Hurley has 2 AA’s. Regardless how you weight these attributions, they are clearly quality players for their position. Getting Daniher fit is their main concern at the moment.

Again, taking one game and trying to use it as illustrative is always reductive and I’ll-advised. They managed to beat all of West Coast, Geelong, GWS and Sydney last year. Week-to-week consistency is a far better explanation for their lapses, which were mostly early on in the season.

They remind me a bit of the tigers before they won. Very hot and cold. Capable of going on long winning streaks, then being so inconsistent and bad all in the same season. They like the tigers have great players all over the ground, so there is a matrix to build on and fill up the wholes. If and when they do they could surprise a few people. Adding players like smith and shiel will help them sure, but what they really need to do is add some really dedicated workman, like the tigers did to their forward line. They may already be on their list and we wouldnt know. Write the bombers off at your peril. I said the same thing about the pies at the start of 2018.
