imagine if you will - sitting in the stands - and after each goal, the ball is bounced in the traditional manner - and then....wait for it - and then, the ball moves towards OUR forward line, ie. the ball is cleared from the centre bounce TOWARDS OUR FORWARD LINE.......

as you were.....

In 2019 it will start to become reality Thy.

In some games I expect our midfield to have some really good periods and there will be a few games where it will click and we will really dominate.

Walsh Dow SPS Setterfield to McKay McGovern & Charlie. WOW :straining:

We will hopefully increase the talent of that midfield with trade/free agency. Try and use a few who can as multi-positional change mids like Fisher as a forward who plays a bit in the middle. In the end we might find that some aren't quite good enough or are lacking and we can replace them with better players. Some bodies may not hold up.

Ball winning and contested work, tackling, pressure and speed will be areas we might be looking to fine tune. I think the skill will be ok although disposal for a few may be suspect.

If we are looking to build the best midfield in the competition then we have some work to do and to do that we have to build from the top.

Look forward to it improving and hopefully finding some real physicality and intensity.

I've been told from a very good source that he will be playing wing/fwd in 2019. Keen to keep him out of the heavy stuff and let him run and use his pace and smarts. Could be a real weapon in that role

Yep. That's where i've had him nailed too.

As the extra linkup mid from the wing. LOB the defensive hard running 7th defender/disposer from the other wing.

FYI. I have it on good authority that O'Brien will be playing wing/mid. Seen as an attacking running option. With some extra muscle and he has grown a bit in last 12 months it will be his role. Think Josh Kelly from GWS. Not saying he will be as good (I'm hoping though) but he will play a similar role. Running player that can link up find it and when he does is a weapon going inside 50 or kicking long goals himself.

He'll still be the first one tagged.

Good to hear. I'm a fan of LOB's. There are footy players and then there are AFL players. Reckon he is an AFL player all the way.

I liked his instant 2 way running this year, especially defensive, and thought/think we can use that again next year while he is otherwise generally finding his feet and learning the nuances. I think it is ambitious to already have him concentrate on a more full packaged game so early, but if he can do it so early then that is a bonus.

He'll be another very interesting watch.

By unpopular opinion I actually think he will be better than dow

Things can change quickly. Weitering in his first year looked the best but Charlie has gone past him. Same with Samo and Zac. Who knows how things will shape up in the second year for Paddy and Lachie? All I know is that we need a player with Lachie’s footskills to excel.

Who’s actually better between the 2 I don’t really care. They are very different players.

We will be debating who is the better player for years to come. Tough trying to work out who is the better player when they are both elite [emoji6]

O’Brien will be the Simmo replacement. Winger running both ways hard.
Dow ... well I think he will be the Juddy prototype...there I said it.
Both players will be CFC specials.

Never seen him do it and IMO doesn't suit him. He's an attacking wing/mid that can create and kick his own goals. Think a bit of Josh Kelly or Stephen Hill maybe Gaff? That's where the club see him also. His running and kicking will become a real weapon once he adjusts. He may seem a lot like Simmo (and that's a fair wrap) but it's not the position for him

to be able to begin to dominate games and not have opposition coaches able to effectively shut us down because basically............they can't anymore - bliss

To be able to kick six during periods where we dominate, rather than getting a couple of goals ahead when we're 'on' and allowing the opposition 6 back the other way when momentum changes or we have a 5 minute 'lapse'.

Will come with experience, continuity and team cohesion.

Murph should always have been playing wing/forward that was his game - skirting the packs and exploding out...his best game was sacrificed by the Club because he was still better than most on the list playing inside...I've always considered it to be a waste of Murph's real talent.

Kreuzer/Cripps /Kennedy / Dow and Ed will be the core grunt for Carlton Stocker and Setterfield have to earn it I would have thought and Cuningham may have a say about it.. - Walsh/SPS/Fisher/O'Brien and Murph are going to be the attacking weapons and maybe even Williamson on a wing...

A last placed finish partially paid back by getting a year of development in DOw and O'Brien in particular and SPS grinding his way through it all...

Midfield is really exciting to contemplate - imagine if/when they all started to fire - what a lift to the side ...

A lotta talent I'm seeing - as in a LOT.

I still think it’s too one paced.

I see lots of people on here advocating for going after Cerra in 2019 and while I rate his midfield capabilities, he would only add to the problem.

I tend to agree to an extent. I think because you state a negative statement, posters look for the arguments to refute as we all bleed blue.

Like others, I really like our midfield list and believe it can suffice to win a flag in time (as it stands now- that's how much i like our young midfield group).

But the point has merit and IMO pushed SoS towards Dow instead of Cerra. 'Best available for Carlton's list'.

People can run around Cripps and Kennedy so they need some speed in an around them (Dow).

I'm sure SoS is targeting speed through the draft or trade (targeting Shiel is a good example or proof point).

Does a slightly slower midfield mean we cant win a flag with this list, no. And I even think he would add Cerra if value was there....i just agree that Cerra might not be his perfect target.

SoS is looking for 2019 a speedy midfielder as it just fits. He might not get it...then he goes after next best option.

I'm really bullish on Kennedy, Setterfield, SPS, Dow and Fisher - just for starters in 2019. I'm sure Walsh and Stocker will soon join that party but will et them have 12 months of 10-15 possies to bed in.

It is all about how much progress fro 2019...or do we wait for 2020/21.

PS, I havent given up on Cuningham. I see him as a midfielder in pref to HBF or HFF. do eet...or GTFO.
