Our midfield is looking solid, probably need one more inside mid and a elite outside runner, but we are getting there.

Forward line looks glorious on paper but we will see how it really performs as the yer goes no.
Yes we still need to throw kitchen sink at some Midfield options pretty much right now would be good.

Richmond is all about......DUSTY
one word

DUSTY

the club live by him.....and so do their results

What has his pre season been looking like?
he would be worth serveral million a year to them right now...

We never tag dusty which I agree with and I don’t this he is a true midfielder. Under pressure he’s pretty weak and requires the separation with the fend off to get a clean possession/clearance. If you keep an eye on him and make sure not to let him get those cheap goals in the square being one out we’re okay. Last year that free v Weitering (or was it Plowman) in the square was bullshit. He even did one in another game where he infringed first by holding the arm prior to the ball coming in but as soon as his opponent held him back he let go and put his hands up to earn the free. He’s scum.

He is one of the best medium forwards I have ever seen

Dustbin is one of the few players from opposition sides I enjoy watching do his thing- all over the park - he is Richmond's Mr fixit - the only thing that can stop him is injury and I hope he is never injured. Also classy enough to be a clean player with mongrel - the only criticism one can put on the bloke as a player ( apart from his awful tatts) is his high fend offs - which is up to umpires to adjudicate on. Put him in Carlton midfield and Carlton with this side we have today goes to finals in September - simple as that.

Fisher still up to his evasive tricks. He's not super quick, but he is super tricky and has a very good side-step. Thrilled what he'll keep brining to this team.

As you say, there's definitely power in SPS's movement that didn't seem to be there last year. Huge positive going forward.

Didn't mind that little video at all. Can't wait for the nippy goal-kickers one. :)

Polson 2G 7T 15D in the final round of 2018. He's one I am watching closely this Thursday. ;)

Not expecting anything spectacular from our currently healthy small forwards, that's Pickett's forte...

Yes. Can almost say something similar about Dangerfield but they're good because they'll beat you one on one.

Tall, medium, small, it doesn't matter. If you have the ability and reputation to induce fear from your opponent, you're miles in front.

Pretty sure Curnow will do that to opposition players …

He does already and people will start to watch McKay a lot more closely, also.
Throw in McGovern and we have what may develop into a formidable tall forward set-up.

It's hard not to see the possibilities this trio may yet bring and from what I've seen to date, it looks to be on the cards.

…………….. wow. okay.
Just watch the first half of round 1 again. He didn’t do shit until the second half once moved inside 50. He is a high half forward highlight reel and does his best one on one vs smaller under sized opponents. Then watch about 5 minutes of Cripps in any game over the last 2 years and look at the difference. He’s no midfielder.

If the AFL took away the high fend off that he loves to fish out he would struggle to get any separation on his opponent. He looks for it. And pushes his opponent away allowing him to get separation and space. Without it he’d have to rush his kicks. This is when he looks like rubbish.

Just my opinion. Not many agree with me I know. He should relish in the 666 system as he’s going to get more oppprtunities to beat his direct opponent inside 50.

Think Caddy will be missing with injury

Edit: touch & go for round 1 (thought I’d heard something else and 1st few rounds were to be missed).
Cotch in doubt along with Caddy?
Caddy and Lynch missing or underdone would be huge for Richmond. Both are their genuine full forward options and earmarked as significant goal kickers. Would put a lot of pressure on the little blokes, Riewoldt and Martin to wander down there and kick a few.

All 3 will play Round 1 imo

If Richmond play a full strength side, it will be a good opportunity to see where we're at as a club.
I dont think we need a reality check...after round one
We know where we are are...rummaging thru the draft desperately and taking discarded trades...by the dozens
We are trying to get a descent list on paper ...thats it...we dont even have all of the ingredients yet
where as a team like Richmonds has been experimenting with the final touches with the mind games, full of confidence and at a different place to Carlton
we have a bit of a base with quite a lot of young players but i suspect the whole Carlton gig will need a massive leg up with at least a few very important trades soon....This has to be fixed we know that and it should be done..

Interestingly enough, Richmond made finals in Dimma’s 4th season as coach.

Fresh legs and enthusiasm means that round one often produces upsets. The final result last year flattered Richmond after Kreuzer and Kennedy went down - it seems to be repeating thematic that Carlton loses a player for the year in round one - Thomas' shoulder the previous year...Pickett the night before the Richmond game last year...

This year it seems that Carlton may have copped its injury disasters during pre-season - known outs this year without a shot being fired are Docherty and Pickett ( again) whilst serious question marks over Marchbank/Williamson and McCreadie linger and serve to suck the life out of bullish expectations. A strong and dependable defensive structure can take some of the sting out of an underdeveloped midfield - but if both squads are NQR - the results will be predictably frustrating.

Hopefully enough hard running during pre-season sees the Carlton baby midfield able to combine to play 4 quarter football in 2019 - I got sick of looking at opposition coaches yawning their way through every Carlton match in 2018. SPS/Fisher/Cuningham need to play AFL football for 4 quarters from here on and Kennedy/Setterfield have to be able to take a lot of load off Cripps. Big asks all round but if this can happen - then Dow/LoB/Walsh/Stocker types can add value via rotation.

Supporters should expect to see an improved percentage in 2019 but after taking into account the still injured important players - my expectations are very low as far as H&A wins go.
