If only it were that simple though. Yes it was an improved performance, but GWS didn't play up to the standard of week one. We also lost the centre square clearances again in what is becoming a pretty important stat.

If you think it's as simple as turning around and saying 'our midfield is healthy based on Sunday' then I think you might be missing the point most of us are trying to make, which is that we're significantly behind the best sides in the comp based on our personnel, coaching and tactics in the guts.

I hate to rain on your narrative but we lost the tackle count and one percenters also. This 'pressure' was really just GWS having a bad day at the office. If you didn't have the benefit of watching them play the Swans, that's fine, but the standard of that performance was significantly better than what they dished up against us. Probably didn't help them to have Hopper out either.

Re our standard in round one, that just reinforced our deficiencies in relying almost entirely on Prestia to not get smashed by good sides in the middle. We were pretty horrid up forward versus the Blues, but down back they did the best they could given the rate it was coming in.

This isn't the autopsy thread it's a broad take on our midfield. My opinion is our midfield is cooked (see the original post) and the GWS game does not indicate to me that it's not.

That stat is about as relevant as where our midfield ranked in the last third of 2020 before the round 2 of 2021. We were a premiership midfield, highly touted, and due to a number of factors, didn't perform in 2021. Now we are not a highly touted midfield, with significant personnel issues and we just out performed a GWS midfield that was widely expected to belt us up in the midfield. Hell they beat Sydney by 7 in the highly important centre clearances and in contested ball last week (so important that they still got beaten). Maybe, just maybe, everyone (fans, media, even clubs but probably less so) get a bit wound up on 1 result.

It's round 2 and statistically there are now 6 teams who are far less likely to make finals than others. Including 2021 finalists, Port, GWS and Essendon. The media are paid to make stupid headlines and create clickbait and conversation. Our job is to turn up and support the team.... that's it.
