Opinion Our next 6 weeks: Tougher than it seems

We have done remarkably well especially considering our injuries. This block of games is really setting up our season. I think the past 5 weeks have shown that the teams we played have been tough contests. Three (Ess, Carl, Syd) have been really close games.

Yes, most definitely and not to mention both Carlton and St Kilda being much harder work than what they should have been.

3. Midfield getting beaten.

I think we have had some issues at centre clearances so would agree with you comment with that aspect of our midfield. I do think our midfield is doing really well in other areas of the game.

Our transition is excellent (last night excepted, the SCG and Syd style stymies that). The connection with our forwards is the best i've seen since 2011 and the stats would suggest we are the most efficient team in the comp right now when entering the F50. Our defence is also rarely getting exposed, we are a stingy team, and I reckon that has a lot to do with upfield structure in midfield. We are slowing down the oppositions ball movement and giving our defenders a fighting chance.

The midfield I think has been good but not perfect.

Remaining fixture:

Games vs Lower ranked teams:
North
Freo (at the G)
Suns

Games vs out of form teams that could find form:
Melbourne x2
Bombers

Challenging games:
Adelaide ( in Adelaide)
Richmond (not really a challenge for us imo but they’re winning often)
Hawthorn (until we beat them they’re a challenging team)

Extremely hard games:
Giants (in Sydney)
West Coast (in Perth)

What did I do?

I think he’s suggesting that you may as well have made the thread about “7” (games before the bye) rather than “6”.

Melbourne were rubbish five rounds ago, but Queens Birthday games are always tough games.

Why do people struggle to understand me, I did surprisingly well in year 12 VCE English

Well, there’s your problem!

I failed VCE English twice (true) which is why folks understand me so much better. :D

Remember when we beat the lions by 10 goals at the Gabba, that result is more impressive by the week
Except we didn’t beat anybody

Was English your second language?

That was a thing, probably still is.
If you have English as a second language you get a different exam and leeway or some such.

No, English is my first language...
I didn't know Collingwood supporters went as far as year 12? Let alone even going to school......

Next thing you will be telling me, is that you have a career job, and a full set of REAL teeth! :drunk:

This week shouldn't be too much of a problem. Dockers will be buggered, and travelling to Melbourne for three hours takes it out of you. It was this corresponding clash last year, that we caught fire. WHE kicked half a dozen, and Checka loves the Dockers too.

Melbourne had won eight in a row coming into last year's QB, and had flogged sides, including an Adelaide team, coming off a Grand Final, albeit nose diving, by 15 goals. Now? They couldn't even mount a stagger against a Giants side, who has struggled to win at the 'G.

I won't become complacent, but we are looking VERY good for 10-2 going into the bye.

Our form at the moment reminds me a bit of 2015 - 2017 Collingwood. We do pretty well against the good teams, yet struggle against the teams we'd be expected to beat. I guess the difference is we're a much better side now, so the results are actually going our way. Could be a coincidence though, given how even the competition is this year.

I remember looking at this block of games when the fixture came out and thinking it will be a period where we might get a breather after a tough opening draw. We're 5 rounds into this mixed up season and things are looking very different. And very interesting.

Our next 6 rounds will see us (sitting 4th) play off against 1st , 3rd, 5th, 7th, 15th and 16th. That's a block of games including St Kilda, Freo, Port, Essendon, Carlton and Sydney. I think it's a group of teams that will be a lot tougher than they may appear on paper. Their positions after 5 rounds, which have been earned, attest to that.

I think we'll learn a lot about our side and our chances over this period of time because it will be really challenging. Never a dull moment with this group! It'll be fun to watch.

Would it be too much to ask if you could start another thread in this vane?
This one had a great outcome for the Pies.

After the Freo game.

We have a tough run of games later in the year... WCE, GWS, Richmond, all in order. Thats the real challenge.

I'm just focused on Freo this weekend. That will be a challenge enough at the moment.
