You interview him and make a call, you don't run a broad process with numerous applicants unless your goal is to get an inexperienced coach. Buckley, Clarko, Scott and co won't go through a competitive process. SIMPLE.

Rubbish. You run a process to get the best candidate. Even simplier.

Clarko won 4 flags, Lyon none.
Clarko stuck with the club for almost 2 decades through multiple ups and downs, Lyon has 2 clubs where he’s left them pretty low.
Lyon culture issues at Saints and Freo.
Lyon a one trick pony game plan where it’s not clear if/how he plans to adapt after a few years out of the game.

Obvs you have a quick talk with Clarko to make sure you’re on the same page but apart from that he’s a lot more proven with much less questions surrounding him than Lyon.

Imagine if Hawthorn had decided to dispense with the process at the time Clarkson was appointed.
Everybody had Rodney Eade and Terry Wallace as the only two in that race and both were keen as mustard. They were experienced coaches by then as well.

There is a distinct difference between searching for a coach mid season and off season

Pre season for our next coach has already started. each day they aren't appointed is a day the club has lost in its 2022 planning

There is nothing significant a coach can do anyway right now. No hurry. Any candidate is studying our list, suggesting growth opportunities and moulding a plan around our talent. If our guys aren’t working their butts off to be ready for preseason to impress their playing credentials on any new coach, they are out going to get a gig. They have to know they are on notice too.

Did anyone catch 360 tonight. They mentioned two members of the coaching selection panel who would be negative to Lyon Patty with the respect women policy, but missed the other name who they said would never work with Lyon. Paraphrasing here.

Looks like the panel selection was meant to scare Lyon of the process, maybe we decided we didn’t want him.

I suspect the board had the view that if Ross was able to get the ok from Kinnerley after the process he’s the right man for the job.

Ross seeing the numbers as being stacked against him has pulled out.

It's quite possible, at the end of the day he decided he couldn't go through the proposed process and we move on.

Works both ways though, Parkin coached Ross and had him as an assistant. Williams is also supposedly a big fan.

Voss,Hird and Buckley have all coached senior sides with mixed success.

Bucks nearly got a premiership.

Hird,we’ll we all know what happened there.

Voss had a poor list and was probably not ready.So he ‘may’ be right to go now.Like people have said here before our list is ready to go so your not starting from scratch.
