Bucks and simmo would have to prove they are flexible with philosophy and strategy because their teams moved the ball in ways that are a bit obsolete now.

Bucks seems too Melbourne centric to move across. For a guy who's never won a premiership what an opportunity to be freos first premiership coach
A Melbourne centric guy may be what we need though - we’ve tried the Fremantle guy, and it’s been a flop.

He’s not my first choice, that’s clearly Longmire who has more runs on the board, but I feel Bucks second time round would have something to offer, if he came across.

I get the sense from Simpson he'd entertain coaching again but he's in no mental state for it presently. On SEN breakfast he also alluded to having a poor relationship with Pyke whereas Garlick has a great one with JL, and he stressed how important that is.

Any new coach is going to get results from players too comfortable.
As long as they have the desired fire in the belly and a decent gameplan.
Also we need someone from the Clarko school of coaching.
Whether that’s head or assistant.

It's a prime list to bring in a first premiership.
Someone with an unhealthy ego would love the mantle of being the first.
The Fremantle..
It's something that could be sold quite easily.

I wonder if he would consider the senior assistant coach role like Brett Ratten at the Hawks.

Less pressure.

Not sure how to link it as i saw it on instagram, but Simmo was questioned by Gossich on SEN about whether he'd take the job

Said he "wasn't interested" on talking about it but definitely didn't give a definitive no. Seemed like out of respect he didn't want to discuss the issue and focus on other things

The guy kind of won me a bit in the last season at WC. The way he coached from the sidelines, didn't disengage, and kept trying to teach the kids, even as he knew the axe was coming at any time. That he apparently didn't get on with Pyke is simply a point in his favour, you would have thought.

Any of him, Horse or Bucks would do me fine, it's just that the latter looks highly unlikely.

Ok, just watched it. Thanks for posting.

I kind of get that a player might feel jealous or feel the need to be wanted when they're out of the team and hence be conflicted about the success of the team without them. The impulse makes sense and obviously overrides it. That alone doesn't make him a narcissist, but his thought processes definitely revolve around himself A LOT.

Depression and narcissism can go hand in hand - If you remove yourself from what you can and cannot control then both conditions start to alleviate. Alex definitely centres a lot around himself. That's not an attack on him, we all have issues and if we're unwell, things overwhelm us or we are unfit to perform our roles then it might be best to take a step back and change perspective/challenge our thoughts/beliefs. He's definitely pre-occupied with a lot that deviates from footy - world problems, political issues and how he's viewed or will be remembered by others.

By contrast, watching interviews with Caleb Serong - the man is ALL in on football, always bettering himself as a player and about his fellow team-mates and professional through and through. He sets a better tone and I firmly believe he is a better leader. Somebody that leads by example - that's the sort of leadership that will positively influence his team mates.

I am gob smacked by the talk of Simpson being our coach.
Are people really serious?Yes he won a flag, but it was a gun side.
but remeber after that when covid hit, how the players jacked up about having to go to QLD for the hub!
The club, plus Simpson were on their side. The club even boldly told the AFL they would only be away for I think six weeks then they would return home.Simpson on board.
Rememebr the way they treated the hubs,. It was the beginning of the end for them. Where their troubles began.
Not training properly, and not getting told to do more. They went on holiday. All with Simpson in charge.

Since then, they have been innundated with injury. Why!! Because Simpson allowed them to get fat, am I allowed to say that!!,and lazy. and did nothing about it. They moaned about injuries. Injuries that were simply put, self inflicted by arrogance and entitlement. They became sooks and soft, under Simpson.
If we want, need, have to have, a hard coach, then count out Simpson.

You can't fluke a premiership. Simpson got them into finals six years in a row, 7 finals wins, 2 grand finals, and 1 premiership.

He may not be the perfect coach (i.e maintaining standards) but he clearly had some strengths. You can't ignore his record. Also when you mention his gun side. They won the premiership without Natanui and Gaff who were both top players in 2018.

with the softness I mentioned, is he really the one we would want to replace a coach thatalmost everyone is saying is soft!!!
Not for me.

No worries. I understand the criticism but i just want us to do a comprehensive search. From memory our pool of candidates before Jlo's appointment was pretty shallow. Jamie Graham, Dean Solomon and Rawlings spring to mind - hardly a very inspiring group of candidates.

Financially we're a big club! We need to be ruthless in our search and aim for the best. It's not the 90s any more.

Nil interest in any of our current assistants. Says everything that the PR crew finally trotted one of the assistants (Jade Rawlings) out to front the media, instead of after that pathetic effort against Melbourne or the one against Geelong.

Strong preference would be Horse followed by C Scott.

Would be OK with Hinkley or Bucks so long as a younger assistant was also brought in to take over.

In terms of newbies really only Brett Montgomery or Adrian Hickmott appeal to me.

Left field choice would be Xav Clarke.

Romantic in me (yes I am old school romantic) would be either of Michael Barlow or Roger Hayden, though I know both are unlikely to even get an interview.

To the latter two, no.
I thought I saw Barlow in among the coaching staff of one of the Melbourne team last week.I may be wrong.

Still think Bevo should be given the Lyon type upgrade.
They do alright with English not being a power ruckman, and he
has that authority missing at Freo.
Just like Malthouse with more at his disposal at WC.
He talks well and is different enough to fit in quite well with the locals.

Barlow is development manager at Norf. He is undertaking cert 4 and I think will be a hot candidate this time 2027.
Hayds has already completed cert 4 and hundreds of hours of senior level state / rep head coaching, if we had treated him better he would be well ahead of the likes of Wet Toast Grayham and Norf (not the good one) Rawlings in our assistant ranks. If Carr hadn't taken the Port job Rog was their next pick. Sliding doors.

I’d ask Barlow if he’d be keen to be a midfield coach, think that’d suit him

One of our worst losses in years and who was the man sent out to front the media on Monday morning?

Next year will be a fresh start for the club. Longmuir, possibly Garlick will be gone, and this fresh start should be reflected in the captaincy as well. Thank Pearce for his years bridging the gap between generations and hand the reigns over to Serong.
