That's the catch with a good coach, getting an average list to overperform can be the biggest **** tease ever. Plus you never bottom out for the picks, so it hurts in the long run.

Longmire is a very good coach. I would take him, and hopefully he can bring a few Sydney players with him.

If we do get rid of Longmuir, then the replacement is Longmire. It always has been.
He's the best coach available and it's (IMHO) glaringly obvious he's the man for the job.
The question shouldn't be is Hinkley or Beveridge better than Longmuir, the answer to that is obvious. It has to be is Hinkley or Beveridge better than Longmire?
Whether he wants the job or not is another question, the Eagles were pretty confident they could land Cox or Hansen at the very least and we saw how that worked out.
If we cant get Longmire then yeah, sure, have a crack at Ken or Bevo. But there is a hierarchy of "best man for the job" and with this list, we need the "best man for the job".

I like Bevo - he can coach and he can do it well. He speaks fine and clearly, with fluidity and has a dry sense of humour. He's not too far removed from J-Lo as an overall character, but he feels an upgrade in terms of general personality, public speaking, his own projection of self-confidence and his ability to maximise the players. He knows what it takes to win, is having a decent season in 2025 and he's already a Premiership coach (albeit the 2016 Dogs were rode hard on the willy by the umps that Finals series, sheeeeesh!).
That's not to say he would DEFINITELY come here and be good/outstanding, as no one really knows (and we've had our fair share of Bulldogs rejects!) - I don't have powers of clairvoyance and can see into the future. The next coach could equally be as disastrous or unsuccessful, and the club is back to square one, then facing staring down that long, cold barrel of never being good enough as the better players currently on the list either fade or pee off elsewhere. It hangs in the balance......unless!
Personally, I think there's still time for Justin as a coach to adapt and make things better, but his stuffy conservatism, the match committee 'moments' his lack of good public speaking/projection/aura seems to be the glaring thing that keeps the team in stasis, more so than not - with the team replicating his shyness at times or inability to unfold a complex defensive game style. And time is running out, the natives be growing a wee bit restless, oh aaarrr (pirate talk).
That being said, we've seen some inroads with players like Wagner being shuffled into new positions that seem to be slowly but surely giving the team a better flexibility, cohesion and balance, and therefore point of attack; making match-ups more difficult for the opposition. Some players are also just down on form too, like Amiss has been. Treacy has been lacking a few bags lately etc, but working his butt off. Voss is raw, sometimes clumsy and boneheaded; but energetic and bustling with great vigor and enthusiasm - yet all 3 of those talls are exciting, young; emerging and mobile - they're not clunky wooden hooved hunks of the days of old just there to take contested marks and clunk 'em through. There's serious talents there. It all just needs to work itself out, but time is ticking!
I think the over-arching analysis nearly everyone agrees with, is that Justin has a good enough list but isn't making the most out of it!
No doubt the acquisition of Bolton will be a club masterstroke as he injects some buzz and high octane all around the ground, especially injected in the midfield with Young out and the overall 'blossoming' of the forward line is still a work in progress with "kids" like Reid and Dudley, but an exciting one compared to 6,7 or 8 or so years ago!
I think the talent is there, right through the squad - that's not to say the players get off lightly, some of them have been found wanting this year up to the GWS game. Switta, for all his experience and talent has been poor. But it's Justin's seemingly rigid approach, hesitancy and calamitous nature in front of the camera that doesn't project well for me.
But look, to be fair - it's easy to criticize from afar - I have no idea what goes on in Camp Dockers from one day to the next. The players reckon they "love" J-Lo, have backed him in as their man to lead the way. Fair enough, but PR exercises with various talking heads floated out doesn't necessarily tell the whole story. And results will dictate the narrative more so than "faithful" players.
All it takes is a series of good wins though to make the criticisms (mostly) 'go away'; all it takes is one bad loss for the walls to come caving in! It feels like J-Lo is walking a wobbly tight-rope line after 5 seasons of ups and downs. Mostly downs, and it will be that way all season as he rides more highs and lows - maybe one last time?! If he makes finals, he's probably safe.
So, let's assume hypothetically he will be replaced end of 2025, if I had it MY way (haha!) - I'd probably choose Chris Scott.
If we're being more 'rational' (oh ffs, c'mon now!!) and within the realms of realism I'd say of the 'availability' choices it would most likely be:
John Longmire
Luke Beveridge (if still unsigned) [or you could interchange these 2, but I'd say they make the top 2 shortlist..]
Maybe Adam Simpson as more of a dark horse, and then some untried coach thereafter.
Despite all that, I doubt Justin will be punted this year as I think as others have touched upon, he will accrue some good wins, maybe even some excellent wins...and some unexpected and bad losses, but always a bit of a balance of each other, never quite tipping one way or another, GWS being the prime example when the club was under some pressure, another away game heebie-jeebie type vibe, under a critical eye-watch - UNLESS the team's wheels do completely come off and they're getting pummelled every game ala 2016 style.
Can't keep using injuries and team inexperience/youth as outlier excuses though, I think there's enough quality there week to week even with the injuries they've had to be pushing for a top 6 finish. I think my main worry at the mo is Darcy, his well-being and mental health and how he fits back into the team, if there's even a pathway?
We know Jacko is amazing and the team looked so much better balanced against the Giants, but it was 1 game - GWS were poor and have injury and form issues themselves, so it wasn't an entirely accurate barometer to measure the team's win against, to put it bluntly: we need more evidence. As for Jacko, we know there's 'rumours' there, so if he did request a trade that could really put the cat amongst the pigeons - let's hope it's just scuttlebutt nonsense as Jacko this year has found the form worthy of his trade and looks to be growing each week, injuries aside - but he's not an out-and-out ruckman and does struggle against the goliaths in the ruck department. Running him as chief ruck ALL season from here on in does feel like it poses some problems, but both he and Darcy (when fit, and kudos to Darce for the work he's done in trimming down, truly..) in also feels like it affects the balance from a more negative slant. It's just his form (Jackson) has been excellent this year to date. If he were to stay, Darcy were to go...the club would still seriously need to bolster its ruck departments, no sh*ticles Sherlocks!

That was an epic post and very well explained. Either Longmire or Beverage would be just what we need to take the next step as a club.
Justin Longmuir has had plenty of time to prove himself as an AFL coach capable of taking this team deep into the finals. The results so far are unconvincing to be kind. The club has stated the time for talking is over, it's time for results.
In 2025 we are still losing games to fired up sides when it is obvious that they are coming hard for us. Geelong, Melbourne and Saint Kilda have all been poor losses.
Justin is a good average coach, nothing more and nothing less. We need a better than average coach if one is available.

Nope, he literally said he won't stick around if he is not welcome which is an odd response to being asked that question. Don't forget last year some of the players told the HO they want him gone.
