Graham strikes me as being almost identical in personality to Jlo.

I've not met Rawlings but he seems to have more of the mongrel edge we need.

He was also outside the AFL system for a fair while until this season.

I know it’s three games but Graham has a 100% winning record as senior coach at West Coast and Freo.

I’m not against a first time coach if Beveridge and Hinkley are the other options.

Not sure a sacked coach has ever been successful second time around since Leigh Matthews. Chris Scott won a flag in his first year so it is possible - think this list could have considerable new coach bounce if they pick up a decent game plan quickly enough.

On the subject of new coaches something else that never works is caretaker coaches tbh. It’s always short term bounce that same season but after that they’re pretty much never successful.

I don’t really like the guy but if he’s interested in coaching again we could do worse than seeing if Adam Simpson is interested. I’d rather him than Beveridge or Hinkley tbh. Our list isn’t much worse than the one he won a flag with IMO - the list he had to work the last 3-4 years is as bad as there’s been in WA and the boys club at West Coast were too delusional to let him make the changes he needed to.

I think we have a natural disposition to dislike Simpson given he’s a West Coast premiership coach, but objectively if you asked me who would do a better job with this list right now, Simpson would be streets ahead of J-Lo. Could do worse than giving him a call.

If we are considering a new coach next year.....

tried coaches - success is very less except Leigh Matthews and Malthouse
Untried coaches - most of the premiers have tried coaches but for every untried successful coach there will be almost 14- 15 unsuccessful untried coaches..

Our rebuild is almost complete except 1 or 2 pieces to fill in next 2 years.
so we could try a successful coach as the untried coach may be a worse option?

Of all the tried successful ones out of - Longmire, Bevo, Simo and unsuccessful but permanent finals coach Hinkley...

1) Hinkley - even with this list it may be possible that we may keep playing prelim Final but never make GF?

2) Simo - He was a finals coach until Mitchell joined and became Premiership coach and again Finals coach when Mitchell left?

3) Bevo- always out side top 4- was very lucky in 2016 and from WA impossible to win flag from out side top 4 ?

I didn't include Chris Scott as he is unavailable

Then 4) Longmire

5 GF in 14 years and 1 flag. that is 1 GF every 3 years. Sydney's rebuild was always different from Hawks and Richmond as those 2 teams really bottom out, got some incredible talent and top up with good trade and the coach who started the rebuild got a cohesive talented unit in a window of 5 years and got 3 or 4 flags. Not to mention the good assistant coaches they got. But Longmire didnt get such list or such window. because Swans always up there in top 8 and they get low picks always and even if they get good academy players for free most of them are small in stature and it made holes in key positions such as forward line and big body midfield position(which might have pushed him to implement a tiring game plan)? and in such rebuild cohesion also will be less?
His GF loss in 2016 is bad luck considering the favours dogs got ?
Loss in 2022 is after a mini rebuild?

He left the coaching after GF loss is different from other coaches who left when team bottom out?

Considering these factors and our list hitting prime for the next 5 years, is he the best option if he is still interested and haven't lost the passion for coaching?

I’m ok with this, as long as Mitchell is his assistant. Other wise his record is not great.

Different sport I know but picking up someone like Simpson/Longmire who don't seem to have passion for the game by throwing money at them gives me shades of Monty Williams at Detroit.

Our list should be attractive to a lot of coaches.
