IMO Our next game for premiership points is round 1 2005.

I've come around to the thoughts that this season should be a training run for our youngsters and we are out of the race well and truly.

I will still support them but I will no longer focus on the negitives but rather what progress we are making FROM SCRATCH.

It dosent matter who will coach or where we finish as we have now started our pre season training.

I have been doing that ever since we lost to essendon. The rest of the year should be used to wee if youngsters are up to it. Every youngster should be player. They will be better off for it next year.

Yes, the Essendon game told me a lot too - It confirmed what I had be thinking since we lost to the Kangaroos!! - in round 1 :(

We have played everyone except Rutten, Watts and Krueger. I can only see Watts getting a game out of that group atm.

This is just the beginning...........we still have a long way to go before we come out the other side.

F Watts, l Jericho, N Bock, j, schback b reilly will need at least 50 games before they start to win us a game of footy. two years at least.....so get used to that feeling of losing for now at least

That is IMO far from the case, and a situation the AFC would not allow.

We are in a position where a year down the bottom, with the correct drafting decisions, and trading can still get us back on track.

Imagine we get some concessional draft picks:
We pick up picks 2 &4
We trade Burton(&Perrie) or Stenglein(&Perrie) for another first round pick.
We pickup Cooney in the PS draft
Watts plays a cameo role in 2005
Hentschell continues to improve as a KP
We get Goodwin and Hart back in for hopefully a full season.

I know some of this is fantasy, but hey this is an exciting time, not a time of doom

As long as we are prepared to make the tough decisions.

Just quietly I don't think Cooney is all he's cracked up to be.

His aerobic fitness needs a lot of work at the moment, and I don't think he's dealt with the pressures of being the No1 draft pick overly well, but perhaps a move back to Adelaide could get him back on the right track.

Kane Johnson, Andrew McLeod, Simon Goodwin and Tyson Edwards were winning us games before they hit the 50 mark.

There is more chance of me becoming a dutchman than this happening because Cooney is contracted until the end of 2005 season ;)
Hi dutchy;)
I think the odds are against it, but I don't believe he is all that happy in Melbourne and the Bulldogs.

Perhaps the Bulldogs can overcome it, and maybe a deal can be done where they don't lose out?

But you can't play your best footy if your unhappy.

I said we will NOT pick him up in the pre-season THIS year because he IS under contract until the end of NEXT year. The only way we would pick him up is to trade for him and I don't think buldogs would let him go for anything less than #1 pick overall. In other words it AIN'T gonna happen.

Cooney is soft.

No, seriously, he hasn't looked up to AFL at all. When you see the wondrous debuts of Walker for example, Cooney looks pretty average after 8 games or whatever he's played, just hasnt got into it.

And what has he done since his 1st game??????

While I agree that Walker will be a gun, Cooney will also be a very good player. Lets not forget he is still 18 and has a LOT of development in front of him.
