We are obviously only looking at our own team's prospects for a GF/Flag, but there are many teams with bigger claims than us. Saints, Freo, Dogs, Demons, GC, GWS, Tigers all yet to get a flag in the last 40 years or so, at least since most on this board can recall, and so much has to go right to get near it, eg 08. I for one am happy to have seen us win 3 in my life time, and have no thoughts that we will be in contention in the near future ( 10 +years). Too many teams are and will be able to draft and build up their stocks, and we are about to lose the rest of an incredible team, over the next 6-10 years. The players we have recruited may look talented to us, but that's our focus. Other lists are more talented as time goes on, and we saw that firsthand last Saturday.
I may be pleasantly surprised if we can get to that state of euphoria again, but can't say I'll be expecting it, and it may be more likely that GAJ returns to finish off his career with us, (after his flag/s with GC.)

I am optimistic that in 2015 we will have shot at it. That's another 50 games development to our young-mid tier and will be last crack with the likes of of SJ, Bartel, Kelly, Mackey, Lonners and Taylor (assuming they hold their standards).
By then, only Harry would likely to be still viable, the others would be past that capacity.

I personally think the window is still just a crack open, wouldn't mind trading to reload in the next 1-3 years, otherwise it will be a long wait till the window opens fully again.

Next year is our best shot, while we still have Bartel and Steve Johnson at a good age. Maybe the year after as well.

None of young players have shown the ability of these two, so it is logical we will get worse as our star players retire.

I think next year we will have just the right mix, especially if we find replacement for Corey in the centre square.

In glimpses I would argue Duncan, Menzel and Christensen all have. Bartel took a few years to start playing consistently don't forget.

Dont forget Duncan.
I think we can honestly compare him to Menz and Bundy, the kid WILL become an elite player, I dont think theres any doubt there.
Its exciting times ahead thats for sure and I cant wait to ride it (again).

To be honest right now I think Duncan's the pick of the litter. He's getting better all the time.

I'd phrase it just as Scott did last year - be in a position to compete. Don't mention premierships at all (as Selwood did). Just take it week by week. There's a reason all clubs stick to the stock phrase - it works. You're not drawing undue attention to yourself and the internal ambitions can remain just that - internal.

I'd argue the goal right now is have the strongest possible team for Round 1, so we can win that game. That's all at the moment.

Absolutely....and I would go as far as to say that Menzel could be a superstar. He has something special that kid.

Not disputing that but the coach regularly speaks of working in the now but with an eye firmly on the long term. When you're in transition it's the only way to go really.

Possibly next week.. Great win by the boys to hang on... hopefully they can pull it off 1 more time..

GO Catters

2014. Transformers 4. We win a flag whenever Michael Bay puts out a transformers movie. 07, 09, 11. http://collider.com/transformers-4-new-robots/195227/ not sure if I should put this in the omen thread? I had a look, there's no "We win flags, when Bay puts out rubbish giant robot movie" threads.
True but will Ch10 be covering the game?
We are yet to loose a Grand Final when we have played and Ch10 have been covering the game.
Ch7 on the other hand:oops:

I wouldn't have thought that was the consensus.....maybe we should have a poll.

I think expecting a Premiership next year is very optimistic......I haven't seen many saying 2016 is a Premiership year for Geelong. My hope is we are top 4 in 2017.....after that anything can happen....

seems as though the consensus is for a premiership in 2016 and as it stands, with our recent acquisitions, we appear to be getting a hell of a lot of positivity about our chances next season.

Maybe top 4. I guess then you can go from there...but premiership is a big call. I think when you come from outside the 8 from the previous year, it really evolves across the season. Like 2007.

I just voted 2016! We'll knock the Hawks over by 27 points, deny them of a four-peat, atone for 2008 and send Hodge, Mitchell and Burgoyne off into retirement as Grand Final losers. Get on board! :D

Things this wonderful don't happen in real life. In the real world, the Hawks win consecutive flags, kids die of cancer and the NSA spies on you. Welcome to shitty reality.

Hawks win flags, yes. That much is guaranteed, because evil often triumphs. But if I told you that Geelong would win three flags in five years at the end of 2006, you would have raised more than just an eyebrow. Have faith, brother! Have faith...

Faith is belief in the absence of evidence.

And evil doesn't often triumph, it always triumphs.
