MM is clearly referring to Fyfe.

Richmond supporter, too.

I'll take a Zac Clarke to go - a Zac Smith wouldn't go astray either.
Ah right, I thought we were still talking ruckman. Fyfe is all the rage at the moment isn't he? He'd be great but you can never think a young gun of his calibre will leave his club so early on in the piece. It just happens so rarely.

i would of thought a tall defensive backman would be our main priority.

we do ok in our breakages even without a top grade ruckman so tall KPB for me.

has anyone thought about what free agency can do to us instead of what we can get out of it?
we coud potentially lose deledio as he is hungry for a final
we could even lose cotchin, riewoldt and martin

Yup there's gonna be winners and losers, unfortunately we're not exempt from this but either are 16 other clubs. If we're still a terrible team in 2-3 years and barely winning games, I wouldn't blame any1 of our older brigade who may leave to chase a flag.

I would have a look at having a crack at Majak Daws if your so worried about Ruckman. Liked his goal shown on the TV and North have ample Ruckman.

We can spend more money on a surer Ruck chance later in the Jolly, Mumford style if needed.

Keep in mind we will probably pick up the PNG boys so we will multiculturally harmonious!

BACKMEN.BACKMEN.BACKMEN.BACKMEN.
and a good one too.
With the midfield we are assembling, a decent ruckman is the priority at the moment. We are getting slaughtered in the clearances because Gus doesn't put his hit-outs to our advantage. I reckon 80%+ of his hits go straight to opposition. Falls over too much, gives away too many frees. Tries hard, but he is just a big dumb a$s. Nahas would be more effective in the ruck.

I dpn't think the Ruck is highest priority. It is the most obvious need though.

However our Ruck are in development.

With a premiership realistically 5-6 years away and beyond, the Ruck could be the last cog in the wheel at the end of the fourth year if our other young prospects do not develop. That way we tick of all boxes and cover all risks.

One can't say with the Swans and Coliingwood it hasn't been done before. Ottens is still going strong at his age so we have plenty of time to get a ruck.

On that basis some of our other areas require development and improvement more urgently like the backline and forward lines

Disagree. It all starts in the midfield. All premiership sides have great midfields. We are developing a great midfield, but our dufus ruckmen are letting us down by giving first use of the ball to the opposition. At the moment our gun midfield is chasing the opposition at clearances. We are playing reactive footy at the moment. If we don't correct it soon, then our midfielders are just going to learning bad habits.

So if thats the case how come Gus is ranked 5 overall in the league for eff hitouts? What am i missing here.

1. Keep recruiting midfielders with number 1 and 2 picks for the next 2-3 years... we can always trade for a Ruck.

2. Find our back 6.... Hardwick knows the importance of this and it's something I thought he would have worked harder to find...

3. Getting games into the young mids....

a) He looks like a big clumsy doofus

b) He falls over now and again

c) 2-5 times a game he looks totally out of place on a football field

He's supposed to look like David Hille, move like Dean Cox, and have Darren Jolly's knowledge of the game.

a + b + c = no matter how many good or good enough things he does in a game, he'll be remembered mostly for a + b + c. Most people can't absorb what an individual player does over an entire game (fair enough, there's 44 players out there) so they go with the perceptions that stick out the most and invent things around them to suit (e.g. 80% of Graham's hitouts go to the opposition). ;)

Actually, it starts in the backline. Literally , when the opposition kicks a point and generally unless the opposition are kicking goals from outside 50 from their mids.

You didnt answer. Why is he ranked 5th if he constantly misses as you are telling me.
Ahh, the old statistics bull$hit line. Where you getting this info from, Champion data? You must be confusing fanstasy football with the real thing. So Daniel Jackson has scored more SC points than Judd so that makes him better than Judd? How about watching the game and making a judgement on Gus when it counts.

Ahhh the old statistics are bulshit line… Always good for the clueless to fall back on. Tell me genius, if he is such a dud then when will match committee drop him? You’re the expert you should know. So when will it be?

Jackson Trengove. Two birds, one stone. A big, nasty fullback (imagine McGuane at a proper size) who can go into the ruck.

Reckon Port would throw a lot of cash his way given their dire circumstances without him. Keefe's a similar type, they're damn handy to have if you can nab one.

Ray Hall missed his era. ;)

The best midfielders can read the ball of either ruckman. If not, then they are not worth their salt as a midfielder.

I disagree, we've got a 1 in 4 chance of developing a solid ruckman with the stocks we currently have so i'd prefer to chase a key defender, we just need some size down back.

Although i'd like to see more, i think there have been 'enough glimpses' to persist with him as a ruck/forward. Hopefully the confidence will build and with that will come a better contribution
