Thought I might steal an idea from the Richmond board and try and predict how our first few picks may end up. Matt Burgan attempts to predict the whole thing which will be up at midday Thursday. It may be slightly easier to come up names for just our picks. See who is closest after Saturday.

First pick - Tom Collier
Second pick - Chris Kangars
Third pick - Scott Thompson
Fouth pick - Joel Smouha

See how you go.

My phantom draft (based on what I think we need):
1 - Tom Collier
2 - Tony Notte
3 - Dawson Simpson
4 - Jack Steven
5 - Adam Donohue

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=397151

Best guess on actual selections right now:
1 - Patrick Dangerfield
2 - Aaron Joseph
3 - Dean Putt
4 - Dan McKenna
5 - Adam Donohue

Rookie draft:
- Scott Thompson
- Brent Connelly
- Austin Wonaeamirri
- Stephen Owen

Andrew, I knew you were on the dopey side from your constant "huh?" expression onfield and from the interviews I've seen, but this is extreme even for you.

Let me spell it out for you.

You ... were ... drafted ... with ... our ... first ... pick ... in ... 2002. You ... are ... already ... on ... the ... list.

As much as I would love to see Tommy drafted by the cats, I just don't see it happening.

We haven't spoken to him at all and, more than likely, he'll be gone by our pick anyway :(
Thats Right benny. Tommy is a star, we could genuinely say "We can't believe he lasted to our pick" if he is there.

Going by Burgans mock http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=397707

He will be there at our pick. that means A) Either we don't rate him or B) We think he will be gone.

Now he is a tall defender who plays like a midfielder would suggest we would be interested. So i assume our recruiting staff think he will be gone by our pick.

This is what i had as my mock

1st Pick - Steve Gaetner - Tall Back
2nd Pick - Joel Shmoua - Ruck
3rd Pick - Dan McKenna - Tall Forward
4th Pick - Scott Thompson - Medium Defender
5th Pick - Adam Donohue - Small Defender

This is what I Hope we can get

1st Pick - Tom Collier - Tall Back
2nd Pick - Steve Gaetner - Tall Back
3rd Pick - Joel Shmoua - Ruck
4th Pick - Scott Thompson - Medium Defender
5th Pick - Adam Donohue - Small Defender

Would be the perfect draft for us. 2 bloody athletic defenders. A midfielder come Ruckman. Thompson to replace Dash etc and another f/s

This would be handy:

1st Round: J Grant (Dandenong)

2nd Round: M Farmer (Calder)

3rd Round: C Kangars (Geelong)

4th Round: H Croft (Oakleigh)

5th Round: A Donohue (Geelong)

on the basis of selections at 17, 34, 44, 50 and 60 (or 62, some sources have it at 60 others 62). They're all Victorian so they wouldnt be that concerned about living so far away and in that bunch you have 1 key forward, 2 key backs (all mobile and probably have the ability to play either end), 1 small back and 1 midfielder.

17: Tony Notte or Tom Collier
34: Chris Kangars
44: Best CHF/CHB (depending on who we take at pick 17)
50: Scott Thompson
60: Adam Donohue

I don't want to risk Thompson going into the rookie draft. He was fairly consistant throughout the second half of the year. Good replacement for Milburn or Harley in a few years.

I also agree with Reg, in that we will probably rookie list Stephen Owen. We should also rookie another ruckman. If one of Ottens, Blake or West goes down, there won't be anyone for the 2's.

I read abit about Steve Gaetner , sounds good for our backline for the future when Scarlo & Harley step down and can play as a tall forward also at 196cm.

This is how I hope it goes.

Pick 17: Tom Collier or Tony Notte (or a gun slider if available eg McEvoy). Looks like Geelong will take Dangerfield if he is available with our 1st pick which I wouldn't mind, but I would prefer the options above.

Pick 34: Steve Gaertner.

Pick 44: Tom Bellchambers. I doubt he'll be available at this pick but if he is I'd be stoked.:thumbsu:

Pick 50: Patrick McGinnity. I'm going something a little different here. I can't believe he was overlooked in Burgan's draft and I'd be more than happy to take him with our last live pick. Apparently Geelong showing a little interest too.

Pick 62: Adam Donohue.

Rookie Draft:
Scott Thompson
Ryan Normington
Jack Steven/ Ryley Dunn/ Chris Urie
Developing Tall (Secretly hoping Dean Putt will get overlooked for the draft but really, really doubt it will happen.)

The way it sounds is that Henderson is starting to slip. Would love to see us take him with our pick. Plays the same as Pav

Geelong's first pick will more than likely shape the rest of the picks....and I think we are looking at up to 6 guys with our first...depending how the picks fall.

In no real order...

Selwood
Dangerfield
McEvoy
Notte
Collier
Pears

I'd be surprised about Henderson...but things can change this late in the lead up to a draft. Either way once that first pick is out of the way, I think you can get to scribbling about what we do with 34, 44 and 50...

I think Bellchambers @ 34 is a safe option...but if you risk it there might still be a good KPP worth risking a ruckman till pick 44 and you might have to if you drafted a mid with your first pick...which I think is less likely though. I think we will go tall with our first pick given whats on offer by then.
