Our pace bowlers

We have Pattinson and Cummins out injured and with us finally having depth I think this is what we need to fix. Given our spin stocks I think we should play 4 quicks on any wicket that isn't a spinners paradise, I just wish Clarke would rate his own bowling a bit more.. compared to other spin bowlers we have I don't think he's that far behind, can easily operate as that bit of variety to go with the 4 quicks.

Back to the injury part, I think this is a great opportunity to rotate blokes and decrease the stress on them. Siddle and Hilfenhaus are more mature with a fair few overs behind them and have proven that they can handle big workloads so these guys probably should play most games, Hilfy could be rested for the duller wickets. Cummins has a bright future but we still have just the one game to go off so no need to rush him into any top 3 bowlers even though it was a class effort. I think two of Cummins, Pattinson and injury prone Harris can make up the rest of the bowling for the immediate future.. meaning each one of them plays 2 in every 3 matches or so(assuming we play 4 quicks). Cummins and Pattinson have a lot of cricket ahead of them, let's not burn them out before they reach 25.

NCN looks really good, especially in the longer format. Bowls consistently line and length, and moves it away to the right handers. Has a bit of Brett Lee in his drive through the popping crease imo. Bowls around 145km, I'd say he's just about next cab off the rank if another injury occurs, and should be taken to the WI.

We need to try as many of the young blokes as we can before the next Ashes tilt, and determine what the best combination is to take over.

Pattinson/Cummins are the most talented, and should be given stints for their development.

Hilfy and Siddle have now performed to a level where they deserve to be there, you can add Harris to that list as well.

Then there's Starc, NCN, Hazlewood, Cutting.

At least Watson wont need to bowl too many. :p

Some serious talent, McDermott has got the best out of our bowlers where as Cooley buggered them up big time.

Starc needs to find a fuller length, start better and learn to bowl a consistnt line. Seems to be bowling a bit slower than he can too.

Alistair de Winter is the man most responsible for getting Hilf (well apart from Hilf himself that is) back to where he is now and not McDermott. Not saying McDermott isn't doing a fine job as the Aussie bowling coach. I like the Pattinson/Siddle/Hilf combo with either Lyon or Harris depending on conditions.

Pretty sure this is due to his chronic back issues that he's had in the past. Probably doesn't want to get into a situation where he is bowling 10 overs

I agree

He's fixed siddle who has less natural talent than Johnson. Makes you wonder what he might be able to do with Mitch
Siddle has always had a great attitude, even if he lacked bowling brains. He didnt go to absolute water ala Johnson, would just become innocuous. With someone getting him bowling a much better length and a similar line he's really stood up to lead the attack.

Our bowling looked positive even last summer with the likes of Patto Cummins Hazlewood Cutting NCN etc etc coming through. We're still in an area where we have alot of bowlers we have to get pased that 21-24 injury age group to see how they go, but ti certainly bodes well for our future prospects.

He wouldn't accept help from Wasim Akram, probably won't take much notice of McDermott either

Forget MJ. Starc is at least now working with Akram. Cops some stick but I reckon the young guy has some talent and will continue to improve.

Perhaps if we win this test, Siddle can be rested and Starc dropped, so that Lyon can return and Coulter Nile debut? Would be as good a time as any to test him.

why would they drop Starc?? Definitely not against giving Siddle or Hilfenhaus a rest.

Add Watson into that.

I think Cummins is in the top of the second tier for now. Especially now that he has had a set back. The younger blokes must be nursed through it and a rotational programmed must be assembled, we cannot afford injuries.

No offence, but this isn't the NAB cup. We want to sweep the Indians 4-0 and resting one of our best bowlers isn't the way to do that.

We need to be relentless.

This. Especially on an Adelaide pitch that will require our very best attack to guarantee 20 wickets.

To go 3-0 and finish with a draw because we didn't want to risk our best bowlers wouldn't undo all the good work we've done this series, but it would certainly take the edge off.

He was bowling full at times just a bit too leg side. The ball he got out Kumar was a good nut to any batsmen let alone a tailender.

I wouldn't rest Siddle quite yet. He most likely won't be in the one day team and he isn't the sort of player who tends to break down from stress related injuries. He is doing a fabulous job and really doesn't need a rest.

Hypothetically if our bowling attack consisted of Cummins, Pattinson, Hilfenhaus and Starc for this match and it was Cummins, Pattinson and Hilfy in the previous matches it would be wise not to continue playing Pattinson and Cummins but rather give them a rest.

The major difference now is that fortunately Siddle is the type of bowler who won't get the sort of injuries Pattinson and Cummins may be exposed to at their age. Which is the only valid reason as to why you wouldn't rest him.

P.Siddle
Pattinson
Cummins
Hilf

Harris

starc

Is how the selectors see it I think.

Disagree. I imagine selectors concur that Harris is the best bowler in the country and if fit would be first selected for every match.

The thing is that the incumbents have been bowling well enough to preclude replacement. The only way Harris could get back in the team was via an injury, and rotation too I guess, but it depends on whether you see that as a forced change or not.

1. Pattinson
2. Siddle
3. Hilfenhaus
4. Harris
5. Cummins

At the current time that is how I would have them.

Certainly Cummins can rocket up that order very quickly but he has played 4 FC games and one of them is a test and has injury issues.

Harris is old AND always injured. If Siddle and Hilfenhaus are in form, like currently, I think both are ahead in the pecking order. But it is risk/reward with Harris and if either drop in form, Harris is in every time. When Watson is right to bowl then maybe Harris leapfrogs both again.

I've bumped Cummins and Harris down due to injuries so a little contradictory to have Pattinson as one but the way I see it he has experience over Cummins and youth over Harris. He has the action and the fire to make you think that he will be good in any conditions.

The one day and T20 attack will be interesting sans Johnson.

I'd like both Siddle and Hilfy to be kept away from those sides this time around.

With the injuries to the young guys it's hard to form an attack the selectors would pick without them unfortunately.

I hope we rotate for the next test provided we don't lose at the WACA. With the series most likely in the bag no point chancing an injury for the future. I'd love to see 2 spinners at the Adelaide Oval but I know it won't happen.
