With Danger leaving it should open up our cap to the point where we can pay alot to attract a big fish.
Although I must admit that the cap is a weird thing.
We were told after Tippett left wr had bags of cash in reserve, but all we did was bring in Betts who is only on around 500k. We offered Cameron about 1.2 mill a year, and he didnt take it. That would make you think we had 1.2 mill a year to play with. Now Danger is gone we have his cap space on top of Tippetts.
We should be able to spend like drunken sailors.
How much cap space do we have?

Where did that $1,200,000 a year from?

It would be interesting to know how much extra cash we have in the salary cap.

Do we have any left over from the alleged $800,000 from Tippett
What aboiut the $9,000,000 to $1,000,000 we budgeted for to sign Dangerfield.

Betts was about $500,000
Sloane would have got an extra $300,000

I hope we don't cash out and give Jenkins anything close to the rumoured $750,000

Is there anyway to find out? Rucci used to say where Port where with their cap.
But I guess we would be forward paying players now with the Danger money so make cap space down the road when.

Menzel, Seedsman and Hampton weren't free, they would have taken a dent out of the Dangerfield money.
Surly not.

They would not have added any extra to what we lost.

Kerridge salary would have matched Hampton.
Seedsman would have matched Riley wage
Menzel would be on about the same as Pods and maybe Wright.

Makes you wonder how PAP was nearly 100% of their cap when they took on Ryder but the next year sign Dixon on 700-800k.

AFL rules say we have to spend the majority of the cap so the money is being used somewhere (inb4 400..). If we have front ended a few player contracts you would think that we have quite a bit of wriggle room if the right fish bites.

Thompson would be on 500k atleast. Add that with the pd warchest and you have enough for Hurley and another prime mover.
Kerridge, Riley, Wright and Jpod wouldve more than made up for Seedsman, Menzel and Hampton.
Maybe this is why the $750k figure has been leaked by connors because he knows we have plenty of dosh. Of course he wants his client to get the max dividend. But if you were jj and hadnt won a flag would you take the 100-200k less to have a good crack at a flag or get the extra dosh and never play finals again.
If we dont pay jj the extra $$ and use it on Hurley and a decent midfielder to replace thommo surely he would see that as a big win, especially if hes as gooder mates with Hurley as most people think he is.

The problem is we dont have a track record of poaching top talent.
Betts yes. Hampton, Menzel, Gore and Seedsman were all playing in the reserves at the old clubs last year.

Schultz lost a fair bit and almost on min wage from what i recall. Still not $700k though. Weren't they over for last year but clubs now have to be under on average of a rolling 2 year cycle?
