And we wouldn't have had to spend the next 2 years, worried about how much weight Lance will put on.

and trying to hide his pace deficiencies in the backline where his reading of the play helps.

Plus the wage which is reduced from what it is before is still to high for my liking.

The biggest problem I see is that the style of game is moving past Lance and under Denis it is even worse for him and his body type will make it very hard for him to play into his 30s effectively.

His currency was at its highest this year and we should have tested out Melbourne and seen what we could have got.

I agree 100%

We could have had a youngster, wanting to play the game and not carrying any extra baggage.

I'm not happy with the wage either, 350k doesn't justify one good half season in 4 years.

But then again, that is what happens when the board are too afraid to make real decisions.

Wouldn't worry about it now, Whitnall will be running/walking/standing still in No.8 for at least next year. Let's hope he can play good footy again in 06. Still not sure where his best position is, not sure if Pagan knows either. Interesting times ahead.

Lets cut him some slack guy's, he has accepted a large Salary reduction and is still a quality player. He was 3rd in our best and fairest and showed excellent form in the Wizard Cup. If we can build some quality players around him he will be very good value again.

Here here lance is a champion and directs the backline like a general, even in a wheelchair i would play Lance in the backline just for his nouse and reading of the play, if anything he is under payed for what he provides in direction and leadership to the developing players why do you think so many clubs wanted him. Given another good pre-season Lance will make All Aussie on brains alone let alone his other attributes, Fevola could learn alot about not giving up and putting everything you have got into the team. Lance if fit should be the next Captain after Kouta and mark my words he will be fit come round1 and will have a stellar year next year. A Carlton Champion :D

What possible relevance do the following have:

- he took a salary cut? True but his salary is still much higher than his worth.
- third in our best and fairest? True, but that was in a bottom of the ladder, barely competitive team. Where would he have finished in Sydney's bf? Thats what we should be asking when we try to build a team to win a premiership
- Excellent form in the Wizard cup? I showed excellent form the other day kicking the ball in the backyard with my mates. Took some great marks and kicked some goals. But it has bugger all relevance to my ability as an AFL player (none...). In the same way, the Wizard Cup is not a real competition and no-one gives a stuff!

Whitnall is a decent third option in the forward line, because his smarts can be used to outwit crap defenders. But you can't have him as a major target because players just jump over the top of him. You can't play him as a key defender cos he's too slow. So he's basically a secondary forward option, and a loose man in defence. The money we are giving him is too much for what he is worth. To compound that, he has continually failed to get his weight problems under control, displaying a profound lack of professionalism. We should have shipped him out this year when we had the chance and gambled on a couple of younger guys. Too much conservatism in our list management and its taken us to the bottom!

I agree with Snoozer, Livingstone is a liability & surely must be the worst top 5 draft pick in the past 5 years.

Everyone keeps saying we are paying for losing draft picks, correct, but we are still paying for Parkin/Brittain mistakes ( mansfield, o'reilly, etc ).
Its going to be a long haul back to where we belong.

On the positive side - the CFC has recruited very well this summer. Saddington will be very good, better than many think! Setanta may still be learning and not quite there but he will give everything and offers us plenty with his versatility and height.

The 3 talls from the National Draft in Kennedy, Bower and Edwards along with Hartlett and Raso provide plenty of encouragement and depth with our KPP projects.

Livingston if fully fit may surprise some and remember Thornton had a very injury-stricken year so our spine is looking much healthier. Fevola I'm sure is much hungrier and Lance too may well be in more ways than one!

My dark horse if fully fit in 2006 is Chris Bryan. I think this guy is improving all the time and shows plenty when given a decent run. Tall, agile, great kick, excellent mark, young, versatile, can give relief in the ruck and able to kick a goal when up forward. Is developing but looks a likely type. Hopefully he will be much fitter and stronger in 2006.

Yep Chris Bryan, Setanta are looking very big, fit and strong.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they can step up.
Also developing nicely are Hartlett and Batson, good size and power at last.
Ciao

I know that carlton wants Swallow. Have told him that they are propared to pick him at 4. My brother knows Andrew, and told him that Carlton , hawthorn and essendon are interested. He has had more conversation with the blues. dennis wants him. I will remind you all after the draft that you hear it first.
hello ??? ....damn where is he ??? :D

Have a guess at what the heights and weights are of our KPP/Rucks at the Blues. Hartlett, Bryan, Setanta, Fisher and some others look taller and bigger.

I know Aisake is now 203cm and around 96kg, Batson is huge now - a monster and would have to be tipping 100+kg and around 202-203cm.

I'll have a guess at some other changes to the playing list for 2006:
A.O'hAilpin - 203cm/96kg
Batson - 203cm/103kg
De Luca - 202cm/102kg
French - 200cm/100kg
S.O'hAilpin - 198cm/99kg
Bryan - 196cm/99kg
Hartlett - 195cm/97kg
Kennedy - 195cm/92kg
Saddington - 194cm/95kg
Waite - 194cm/98kg
Prendergast - 194cm/99kg
Bower - 193cm/91kg
Edwards - 193cm/87kg
Raso - 193cm/85kg
Thornton - 193cm/97kg
Fisher - 192cm/88kg
Livingston - 192cm/99kg
Fevola - 191cm/102kg
Russell - 190cm/85kg
Walker 189cm/89kg

Very excited by the article on Paul Bower on the CFC website. Wants to play CHB and is aiming to have an impact next season. Soudns like a hungry young footballer with passion. Knows where he is going and what he needs to do to get there. Listed at 193cm and says could grow more. Very impressive!
