Our Starting 22 - Round 1 2022

Unless we drafted a ready made player or some one that just oozes talent day one... Aarts and George will be ahead of them.

People like to forget that the Tigers are a systems based team and Dimma calls for role players that know the system.

Dimma said we will go again, so i cant imagine any of the draft players getting in if our team stays fit.

Side note, covid protocols will make sure we play injured all year
Both role players were out of the team by the end of the year.
Role based players were okay at our peak, but we are not there anymore (based on last year), so role players can't be carried so much.

Reckon the real threat to George and Aarts is ageing players like Edwards going forward more, Bolton staying forward more because Ross, RCD, Dow etc will be getting more games, and young players who look pretty good in Cunnington and Rioli jnr.

Can't see Aarts getting a game unless he re-invents himself as a mid (through the VFL). George maybe, but he is doesn't have much flexibility in terms of being able to play multiple positions.

clubs dont draft in top 10-15 talent and have them idling away in the magoos for too long if they can help it,ya just gotta look at our past history with top end talent, always given them a crack and next year will be no different unless a miracle happens and the likes of Castagna,Stack,Pickett & Aarts set the world on fire from the get go.
Martin.Cotchin,Vlaustin,Vickery,Rioli,Ellis all played regurlarly as 18yr olds,it didnt harm theyre causes, the only 2 first choice outliers recently have been C.Ellis & Lennon
Conca was also exposed early,it may of harmed his progress ? not sure
CCJ,Dow & RCD were early 2nd rounders, selections which are considered middle tier, not elite,so its understandable some may take time, some adjust early
some dont
i think all 5 draftees will get a shot at it next year, how many of them cement a regular spot next year alone i agree is a wait n see

Canna see and expect Cotch to play on the wing for a whole season...reckon the old hammies would ping under the strain of repetitive running and then their would be nothing left in those old legs when kicking for goal...wasted player in a wasted position...
Same with JR8...I would expect him to play FF full time...conserve his strength and smarts near the goal...maybe a cameo outside FF come Finals time...
Lynch to play CHF...and I would like to see Nank put some time in here as well...
Taz to play FB...Balta at CHB...let Balta do the defensive running...whilst Taz shadows the gorilla oppo forwards...most are the same age and condition as Taz...would break even and be a win for us...
But like most plans...sometimes they go belly up...but some smart player management in a long season and anything could happen...

I reckon there are about 16 locks for them but with a new coach all slates would be clean. Ive tried to pick the best of their youth where possible and ignored blokes who have a bit of experience but have not taken them anywhere or achieved much.Theres also a few i just dont rate.

An example is their mids Dow, Kennedy, Fisher, Hewitt, Newnes, Setterfield all have a reasonable amount of games behind them but they seem more like average players or foot soldiers and make okay depth i suppose. on this i may be way off the mark i dont watch them much and have no wish to.

Like most sides i think they will play two ruckmen with DeKoning who looks like he can also play fwd.

Yeh Jones won't be there. He retired because he wouldn't man up and get the vax. They brought over Lewis Young from the Dogs and of course picked up Tim O'Brien from Hawthorn to play intercept defender. One or both of those two will be in the defence.

Edit: Tim O'Brien went to Western Bulldogs not Carltoon.

Tim O'Brien went to the dogs. Stocker might miss as well, has a significant injury.

B: Vlastuin Tarrant Grimes (vc)
HB: Short Balta D Rioli
C: H.Ralphsmith Cotchin Kmac
HF: Martin (C) Riewoldt (vc)Edwards
F: Baker Lynch Stack
R: Nankervis Bolton Prestia
INT: Lambert, Soldo, Graham, Pickett

EMG: Mansell, Broad Rioii jnr, Castagna,

Tarrant takes Broad's spot and they rotate through the season.
Aarts is finished.
RCD needs to improve to be considered.
Soldo plays if we play two rucks otherwise Pickett rucks with Nank.
M Rioli junior needs more time.
Mansell unlucky.
Ralphsmith to cement his spot.
Miller could go the way of Liam McBean.

Mansell is unlucky to be picked only in your side...
No way Broad vacates that backline...
No way Rioli takes a spot in that backline...
We need a tough solid defensive unit down there...with experience...
So it would be..
Broad.....Taz......Grimes
Mansell...Balta....Vlas

Sheds.....Lynch...Stacky
Bakes.....JR8......Martin
Nank......Bolton..Cotch
Lambert..Soldo...Graham...pickett

anyone that doesnt play pickett has rocks in his head.

So Broad a 3 Premiership player our best defender, leading B&F until injured, not even on bench;
People obviously don’t understand the roles they are given , that are from the coaches that don’t include possessions ;
Broad, McIntosh, Pickett and Castagna are picked every week for that reason, not my opinion.

I'd be surprised if any of the draftees were picked in such a big game. If one jumped out of the box like Sonsie or Brown then perhaps. On paper this is the hardest team in the AFL to break into imo.

There's lots of dependable depth and decent young guns trying to force their way into the side this year. This is a very strong and seasoned squad these days. Dripping with premierships. Can Dimma bring them all together one final time...?

The defensive unit is solid and matches up well with any team. The wings in Baker and Short offer us extra coverage when floating down back given they are well versed in how we set up defensively. Offensively they offer better disposal into our F50. Starting midfield might raise some eyebrows given the lack of experience, but I firmly believe that we need to stop relying on the older guys and start seeing what the kids can do. With most of the older guys still in the 22 if things don't go to plan we can rotate them through to try and change the momentum. Up forward we move away from the defensive set up where we were trying to limit the oppositions ability to rebound and instead using the old adage that the best defense is a good offense and loading up with attacking weapons would certainly make a lot of opposition defenders a little nervous having to play 1 on 1 against the likes of Martin Lynch Riewoldt & Bolton from centre bounces

Good side overall. Like your idea of backing Ross and RCD. Not sure on Graham as a mid but until he is given a real crack in the middle we will never know. He is lucky in that he can rotate forward to the HF where he is still solid. A few unlucky players. MacIntosh and Pickett especially.

One difference I would have is having Miller on the bench over Soldo and going with Balta or Miller as second ruck/CHF. Just don't think we need a specialist second ruck more than we need an extra tall mobile forward. I thought we were really average up forward last year. Both Miller and Balta can play back and forward which gives us a lot of flexibility and pace.
