I don't agree with that. You can't write a player off from playing a role they have never played. As I said earlier, I think Fasolo will be a midfielder long term and my suggestion is more to develop that defensive edge to his game. He has all the necessary skills and physical attributes in my view and the mental side is the only question mark. We will never know unless we give him a shot. He is clearly a big talent.

Whether we like it or not 2015 will be a development year and we don't want a best 22 player learning his role from vfl players. Just my opinion anyway

I see where you're coming from but IMO Fas should be kept at high Hf where his skillset allows him to contribute to the team most effectively. He may have a period of high midfield rotation but we should use our players where they're best suited and stop trying to turn anyone and everyone from 170cm-192cm into a mid.

I don't disagree with you but most decent high half forwards become mids at some stage. Ablett, Didak, Hird, Chapman, Brent Harvey, Daisy, Steve Johnson, Luke Power, Paul Williams, Stokes just to name a few. There would have been serious question marks over Didak, Harvey, Daisy and Stokes' defensive games before they made the switch (there always was with Didak) but the transition works.

Maybe it is early for him but with his body shape, skills and evasiveness in traffic I see a midfielder. I did from his first game but his tank wasn't there, so this is not a new idea for me. Time will tell I suppose but given he lacks a proper defensive skill set I think that midfield run with role might be the right kind of introduction for him, much like it was for Welingham and Daisy (although his "negative" role was in the forward line).

Ah well. It looks like Marley is the tagger elect!

I do not like taggers & I think we lost a lot of clearances with Macaffer in the middle as a tagger.
I would rather have genuine onballers in the middle and may the best ones win.
I disagree, I think our general dislike of the tagger role can sometimes cloud our judgement. I think Caff played his best football ever in this role...but not as a just a tagger.JMO

He was never the same after the Great Job he did on Cotchin and how he and the Media had a Massive Sook over it

I disagree, I think after that game, Caff was much more well rounded. I think he played a way better game. If I stayed at home and watched on TV I did not see it, but when I was at the G and really concentrated on him....well damn I was impressed. He did not just tag, he really loves his footy IMO.

He does and he seems an "intelligent footballer". He really thinks about his game and what to do. I like Caff a lot as a player and his improvement as a player has been quite impressive. I'd like to see him rolled forward as our "defensive forward" playing on guys like Birchall, Brodie Smith (from Adelaide I think his name is?) and Andrew Mackie. I like Caff forward, he has natural goal sense and can mark, kick straight and tackle.

I agree with you; I think Caff is underestimated...I think he is a new breed of tagger. Yes, he can play that role, but he also can be way more versatile. I believe Bucks sees this and encourages Caff in this new "tagger" role.

I'd like to see Caff actually go back to his HF type role. and play the defensive fwd spot, and I think that Williams has the attitude to become the tagger and unlike Caf he has the speed to attack, and is a natural defender. this however also depends if Toovey and Sinclair can get their body right.

Think Williams is the guy I'd most like to see given a crack in the midfield as a run with player. Wouldn't mind Crisp, Sinclair, Ramsay, and Langdon being groomed for this type of role either if they can develop their fitness base over the preseason. At a minimum, gives the coaches options.

I think Caff's tagging jobs were overrated.

Well that's 1 opinion... don't agree, but that's just my opinion. Either way, don't think we'll see him in the role in 2015.

If we are going to have a tagger to replace Caff while he is injured, what about Goldsack?
I'm not sure on his endurance though, but he has the pace and is a tackling machine.
He would also have the height and strength to go with the bigger bodied opponents like Kennedy and Watson.
He doesn't mind getting down and dirty either.

In 2014 we played with a full time tagger for the first time in years.

So, who will it be?

is it a coincidence that when we played a full time tagger, we also miss the finals for the first time in years?
I'm with others. The best way to shut down the opposition is to have the ball yourself. They can't do much damage.

J Blair the pies very own Libba, in his last years at the dogs was a awesome tagger same height as Blair.

That was a while ago. Taggers have to be taller now. Did anyone see what happened when Armfield tried to tag Pendlebury.

I met a friend of The Caff a couple of weeks ago. I asked him to pass on my best wishes in regards to Caff's injury, and said I looked forward to seeing him back in the black and white sometime next year. Then we both had a giggle about Caff's game against Cotchin, and talked about how level-headed he is and free of the BS that goes with some of the more celebrated AFL 'stars'. But his parting words stuck with me - Caff loves the Pies and is a very dedicated footballer. He leaves nothing out there.

The Caff is a very nice guy.
I ran into him a couple of years ago on the way to the MCG.
He was injured at the time & in moon boot.
I just said hi and wanted to wish him well.
He stayed and talked for a while even though I was a total stranger.
He loves his football and did not want to be anything else but a footballer.

I don't think we have a great tagger outside Caff on the list. I think Greenwood can do defensive jobs but probably a waste as a tagger. Taggers these days need big tanks and some body size.

If we are really wanting to have a tagger in the side we should look at Taylor Hunt from the Cats recently delisted and very capable in this role.

If Caff isn't ready for rd 1, could we unleash Marley on a certain ex pies player?

Would that matchup be good for us?
