Analysis Our TEN best players and only ten

Poor John and poor Collingwood that he never achieved his oh so obvious astonishing ceiling.

People may laugh but if John had played on uninjured we would have got at least 2 flags - and probably 3.

He had that much power and impact.

But Peter . . .

Oh my word there really are no superlatives strong enough.

Sorry all back to normal business.
I always think 1977 would have been different, 1979?

We likely do NOT win the spoon in 1976.

1973?

1973?
1973 is a given - should've won that one anyway. If we won in 73 we would've won 77. We finished 3rd in78 I think. there's no reason why a fit Greening could not have helped us across the line then. 1979 he would've been getting close to the end but ....it hurts thinking about

Yes it is painful but part of who we are.

Top 10 pure skills on our list?

  • S Pendlebury
  • D Wells
  • W Hoskin-Elliott
  • D Beams
  • M Scharenberg
  • T Varcoe
  • B Reid
  • S Sidebottom
  • D Moore
  • J De Goey
I’m sure there’s arguments for others but the two standouts for that pure skill is Pendlebury and Wells.
Hoskin-Elliott might also be a spot behind them, but he reeks pure skill.

I probably should had 1979 as a question as to age etc.

I'm amazed to see how many list are missing Phillips.

And adding in guys like Moore and Elliott. On talent, maybe. But youve gotta stay on the park consistently, or else the lists should include Wells.

Jeremy Howe not getting a lot of love. Think he is building nicely into the season and is a proven gun.

Quite difficult. A top 10 isn't enough, I need to put them in some sort of pecking order.

1. Pendles. Congratulations Scott, the acclaim you've received throughout your career now includes being my no. 1.
2. Grundy. The man is a beautiful machine.
3. Sidey. Sly and skilful.
4. JDG. Probably the player I most enjoy watching these days.
5. Adams. Fantastic jawline, necessary grunt.
6. Treloar. Motors along all day, still capable of stunning bursts of speed. Lovely smile.
7. Moore. Sublimely skilled player, and gutsy.
8. Crisp. I'm convinced he'll never be rated much outside of Collingwood, but he is immense.
9. Elliott. Need him out there more, but one of the most brilliant in the competition on his day.
10. Stephenson. Along with JDG, different styles but together making mayhem for opposition defenders. A lively type.

We haven't seen the best of Beams this season, but he and Howe also belong in the higher echelon. They are my honourable mentions.

1. De GOEY
2. De GOEY
3. De GOEY
4. De GOEY
5. De GOEY
6. De GOEY
7.De GOEY
8. Grundy
9. Moore
10. Bear
I’m really not liking how you have three spots left and still no room for De Goey.

Off to the mirror, take a good hard look at yourself, and whilst you’re there give yourself an uppercut.

Who are our top ten players?

Who do rate best?

Whatever criteria you like.

But only list ten.

Is it a simple to do or not?

How do you include ageing players, or you don’t.

How do you include injured players or you don’t?
Grundy
De Goey
Moore
Pendlebury
Adams
Treloar
Steele
Howe
Crisp
Maynard

Only 10?

G. Coventry
S. Pendlebury
P. Williams
G. Hocking
J. Henderson
F. Froude
L. Hughes
C. Dibbs

Took me a few looks, then spotted the genius.

I dips my lid to you sir.

10 out of 10 genius right there (pun intended).

Now to really tax the best 10,
I’ll tale a stab at our 10 best ever Collingwood players.

  • Dick Condon
  • Dick Lee
  • Gordon Coventry
  • Leeter Collier
  • Harry Collier
  • Jack Regan
  • Bob Rose
  • Len Thompson
  • Peter Daicos
  • Nathan Buckley

Now that was very very very tough.

In no particular order:

Hoskin-Elliott
JDG
Stephenson
Pendles
Moore
Adams
Treloar
Howe
Sidebottom
Grundy

Honorables: Crisp, Elliott (would have been in but hasn't played enough in the last 2 years)
