Who does everyone think will be the top goalkicker for the Hawks in 2001 and how many goals will the player kick?. We have plenty of different options, Croad, Thompson, Holland, Lord, Dixon etc. so it will be interesting to see which one stands up and kicks some bags of goals for us. My opinion is Trent Croad.

It very much depends on where Croad is played. Assuming he starts down back for most games, and also assuming that Thompson isn't required to ruck for long periods, my top five would read:

Holland
Thompson
Lord
Dixon
Crawford

Of course, that all changes if Croad goes forward. He could kick 100.

He's blonde, he's quick
He's got a massive ... err ... kick
Danny Chook! Danny Chook!

A half fit MONSTAA (read Thompson) tore the All Australian Full Back apart in a game we were crunched in last year.

Give him full fitness and a year in front of goal and hes a scary proposistion for the rest of the competition. (Thats my little Ali type ryhme!)

Of course Croads in exactly the same situation. If ever there was a natural looking Full Forward its Trent. Nice dilemma to have isnt it? Well isnt it??!!?

If Thommo can stay fit he will be a huge focal point up forward and I think he'll top the goal kicking for us. Followed closely by Holland and Dixon.

On the Croad matter I think he tends to go missing for long periods when they play him up forward. I would much rather see him used mostly at CHB and occasionaly thrown up forward for ten minute spurts as an impact player.

Keep Croady Back and only switch him forward on special occassions... (ie the final v Nth...which I was incedentially watching this morning...bot how close were we to getting into the PF's?)

I think Holland Dixon and maybe a rejuvinated Lord!!!!

Go HAWKS!

Thommo may be able to kick the most although there is the unfortunate chance that rehn could re-injure a knee, so Dutchy is my tip on 70 odd (hopefully more)

I really hope that Lordy can have a great year but I don't see him getting the most due to him probably getting a midfield role.
Dicko will be close to Dutchy with him booting well over 50.

Croad can go missing at Centre Half Forward, but on the few occasions he spent any time at Full Forward he gave a pretty good account of himself. I think I saw him at CHF against Brisbane last year, and he was pretty ineffectual (I may have the opponents wrong - all I recall clearly was being in the Southern Stand and the G watching him miss marks and generally flounder. That day belonged to Johnny Barker anyway).

I hope our leading goalkicker is Thommo. Without another natural Full Forward (if we discount Croad) Thommo would need a big year. Let's face it, our other candidates - Holland, Lord, Dixon - are better off utilised somewhere else. If for example Lord is our leading goalscorer with 40, we're in for a lean year.

What chance McPharlin?

I don't think anyone will reach 100 goals, there is too much talent for one team!!

I tip Holland, Dicko and Croad to get 50 each, and Lordy if he has a good year, oughta get pretty close!!

Maybe it's wishful thinking that all of these players do this well, but we've gotta think positive.... right???
